Yes, I'm pretty sure it is frozen perch but it comes out of the deep fryer. I've had some pretty decent perch sandwiches with only a few what I would call chewy, most likely over cooked. Not bad though in my experience.


I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Having a restaurant like TGIF is fine, but something more unique is needed.

Time to change the TGIF to a Red Robin, YUM, refresh it.

Then add something a level up, but not too much of a level up. People need a choice, well where do you want eat, oh TGIF. Where do you want to eat, oh TGIF.

Again, there needs to be a choice.

Close TGIF, put a Red Robin in there and then add something like an Outback. Take a chunk of land on the beach closer to Cedar Point Shores, put in some sidewalk chess games, etc etc before you enter, that way people have something to do while waiting, outdoor bar close to the lake so you can have a drink while waiting for a table.

Move the Dairy Queen from next to Express and save some franchise fees. Gross.

Ugh, thanks guys. Man, that's disappointing. Knowing that, I'll stick to the BBQ.
Geez, you'd think it wouldn't be that hard for a park surrounded by a lake full of perch to get some fresh fish at a decent price.

Gordon Ramsay would have a conniption. Using frozen seafood when fresh is readily available is a pet peeve of his. XP

How is this perch served? From Mass and now FL so no idea but you all are making me want some.

Usually it's breaded, battered, and deep fried. Eaten plain or in a sandwich, optionally sprinkled with lemon juice or dipped in tartar sauce, with a side of fries and hush puppies. The fish itself is somewhat flavorless, like tilapia, so it's the breading/seasoning that makes the difference. As others have said, Jolly Roger is awesome. They also have this nifty battering machine.

It’s thin with a silvery/grey skin and it curls up a little when it’s fried. It’s really good and has a unique taste, but it’s not meaty like thick cod or something you’d typically have for pub fish.
I’m more of a fan of walleye, which is kind of similar lake fish anyway. Some of the best fish I’ve ever had was the fried walleye they served at the old Marina Steakhouse.

Red Robin is, at best, a lateral move in terms of quality, and a significant downgrade in terms of variety. If a refresh is in order, I'd say something like Ruby Tuesday. Still a lateral-ish move in terms of quality, but provides similar variety.

Not saying I'm a huge fan, but Outback Steakhouse has enough brand recognition and would be a step up from Friday's in my opinion. Also has a decent menu of wings, burgers, steaks, salads, and seafood.

I doubt the parent company would operate seasonally, but a Houston's would be a step up in quality.

Ate at TGIFridays last Sunday while staying at the breakers. It has a new menu and we all agreed that the food was good (all things considered). It’s now my opinion that if they want a recognizable corporate branded Restaurant at that location, they will not find a better choice. Also the waitress we had from Detroit was great. Not over bearing but talkative and quick to refill our beers. Cheers!.

Also, had breakfast at Perkins and the food was terrible. 2 out of 2 times the food was sub-par. We will not eat breakfast on the point again. Any suggestions for places innsandusky for a good breakfast? As an aside, we stopped at Berry’s bagels on our drive home and liked it (is that an Ohio chain?) While there we met a Sandusky man who apparently recognized that we “weren’t from around there.” He asked my daughters where they were from, welcomed them to Sandusky and then went to his car and returned with a stack of NASA stickers for them. They were star struck to meet “an astronaut.” The kindness and genuineness of the Sandusky residents are assets for the area and have always proven to be amazing ambassadors. If you’re listening cedar point, tap into these resources!

Well, looks like I'll be adding that to our Sandusky adventure this year!

All you guys are to high brow for me. After a long hot day walking 10 miles or so I would thrilled to have a sack of White Castle delivered to my room. (Although I only allow myself 1-2 visits per year)

^^Urumqi...I'm sure the most commonly recommended would be Berardi's Family Kitchen in Sandusky. I've eaten there a few times, and it gets the job done.

So, just tossing it out there, as some of you are Sandusky locals; where is your favorite place for perch (or Walleye, which is also fantastic)? There has to be some local joints that can out-do Thirsty Pony, right?

Incidentally, RCMAC, there is a great restaurant called LockKeepers near Cleveland that my wife and I visit once in awhile; usually for special occasions. Anyway, we were there for Father's Day last June, and the seasonal special, which had never been on the menu, was a Lake Erie Walleye. It was, hands down, the best meal I ever ate in that restaurant.

They also have world's best calamari, but that's a different story.

^ Place called Dockside Cafe in Sandusky has some legit Walleye Fish Tacos, with an amazing view, and a few good craft beers to choose from. It's just a little shack that is all outside seating.

In my experience, some of the best seafood comes from the littlest of shacks ;)

OK - I'm sold. That sounds delicious. Is Thirsty Pony's any good? We are not looking to drive very far from the peninsula if possible.
