How Many Crew Members Per Ride?

I was looking at the Point Placements website and saw how fast most the bigger roller coasters are filling up and I have a few questions.

1. On average how many crew members are usually hired for each roller coaster?

2. Is it possible/what are the chances of 1st years to get put on a major roller coaster or ride?

I have a second interview with Steve Voorhees, So it would be wonderful if someone could use maverick as an example since that is what I am hoping for.

Thanks!

First years is all random to where they are placed so you might have a chance to be on Maverick. Don't get your hopes up tho cuz that same chance applies to all the other rides as well, but even if you not at the ride you want there's a chance you could be crossed trained on the ride. But most importantly its not the ride that makes your summer its your crew.

also the number of crew members varies as to how many positions each coaster has.

08 -Thunder Canyon, 09 - Maverick, 10 - Mean Streak, 11 & 12 - Mean Streak ATL, 13 - Maverick TL

It varies from different ride.
For example, rides like millennium and dragster typically have very large crews. At millennium this season, I'm pretty sure at the most staffed point of the season, there were nearly 25 crew members.
Whereas other rides may only need 10-15 crew members at most.
Don't worry there are still plenty and plenty of positions open.
You can have pretty good chances of being placed at a coaster ... my first year I got placed at magnum.
But, just as Coasterkyle said,
even if you are not at a major coaster, give it a go, and you never you may end up really liking it and absolutely loving the crew you are with and not wanting to be moved.
Just go into the season with an open mind and ready to work! :)

#1 piece of advice I can give you. Do NOT be discouraged if you're placed on a ride you don't want to work. You can always get cross trained on another ride. As for how many people are on your crew, it depends what ride it is. Usually around 15 during the summer months, and Halloweekends starts to dwindle down.

I started on a flat ride, and was a little discouraged about it then I started training week and fell in love with it because my crew. It isn't really the ride that makes things interesting, its the crew :)

I started on a very small crew at a flat ride. We had 7 people on our crew during the peak season. I went in very optimistic because of what everyone said that it was your crew not your ride. But yes there is always Cross Training which the biggest ride I cross trained at was maXair. And there is always years after where you can request what ride you want to be on. And they do put that into consideration based on your previous performance. This year I have moved up on the scale and I am on Raptor this year. And I even gave my manager a choice of two rides (Blue Streak and Raptor) and she gave me Raptor. So naturally I am excited! But still its the crew that matters! You are the one that makes it fun or not. So if you choose to have fun with it, it can easily be the best summer of your life! But if you choose to be miserable the whole summer because of your location it can make your summer drag on.

Everyone says its about your crew but for first years, you do care about the ride you work. Its what you look forward to. First years, and everyone for that matter will be placed everywhere and anywhere.

If you want to be on a major coaster mention it in your interview and tell them why you would be good to work on a major ride.

This may be a silly question but is it true that all crew members that work rides have to ride them as well??? What if a person don't care to ride rollercoasters or rides?? Should they still operate rides and be a crew member??? Just wondering.

yeah, you have to ride your ride. if you are uneasy on it, you can talk to your TL or CoTL about it, but some leaders request that everyone on the crew be comfortable enough with the ride to be able to ride it for morning tests.

If you are uncomfortable riding your ride your TL or CoTL should never make you ride it! It's not required that you ride the ride personally. Yes test rides are required in the morning but if you don't want to you will not be, or should never be, forced to ride it!

If you don't want to test ride, its no problem at all .. in fact, people on your crew will probably be perfectly happy about it because that just means more opportunity for them to ride! :)

Good answers from all of you. Hopefully the crew members and all of the Cedar Point employees have a great 2013 season.
