New For 2017: Cedar Point Shores Water Park

thedevariouseffect's avatar

Per the Cedar Point Twitter, it looks like our Soak City Waterpark will be renamed Cedar Point Shores Waterpark.

It also looks like a new slide complex will be built in the park, no other pictures or clues were presented just yet. See the park's Instagram for more info.

Also, neat idea with the announcement to use the Instagram Tiles to format the announcement. I'd love to see how the metrics looked as they went live with each image & whatnot. Kudos to the marketing department, it's def something I'm going to remember & take with me for my companies conference this fall.

To me this may confirm a single gate price as the water park now will have Cedar Point in the name.

Wow, this is the worst announcement I've ever seen. I'll be out front burning my season pass and never coming to the park again...

**Okay, got that out one of the way.

Why? Cedar Point refers to the entire resort, not just the amusement park.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Very interested to see the layout since the picture has new slides right behind Dragster!

Also re: marketing with Instagram Tiles. Very clever.

^ I think it's safe to assume that it's a matter of perspective with regards to the water slides. The angle used probably puts TTD just behind the water slides, when clearly they would fit right where the GoKart track was located.

Using Instagram tiles is nothing new, Call Of Duty did it this past Spring to announce Infinite Warfare.

To me it just makes sense to include CP Shores into normal admission especially if they expand all the way across Challenge Park.

It's not that far from the old Go Kart site to the TTD tophat... a couple hundred yards tops.

So... it makes sense to include what is currently a separate gate into the normal park admission, because they're expanding on to land that was formerly also an upcharge cost? I guess I'm confused.

It looks like Point Plummet is going to the left of Magnum (when facing the park not the lake). Does this mean the mini golf is coming out, or is the rendering inaccurate? They do mention new locker rooms, but that is not a big area. So is nothing going in the large chunk of land where the go-karts were located to the right of Magnum? Maybe another announcement later today...would love to see a water coaster in that spot. I also thought Pacific Spin would have been a part of this expansion...wonder where it is going now? That being said, the new slides look great, was just hoping for a little more as Soak City was really been deprived for awhile.

Disagree. The announcement itself states: "Cedar Point Shores opens in 2017 and the best way to enjoy the super-soaking fun AND The Roller Coaster Capital of the World is with a 2017 Platinum Pass! Enjoy unlimited admission to Cedar Point and Cedar Point Shores, Early Entry, FREE parking, exclusive ride nights, in-park discounts and so much more."

That they are listing them as 2 separate parks in the announcement makes it sound as though it will still be a value add on to the platinum pass.

Point Plummet and Starboard Surge/Portside Plunge appear to be located on the former Challenge Racing site. Lakeside Landing appears to be on the former Skyscraper site. I wonder if we'll also be seeing any additional upgrades to existing Soak City attractions as well.

And there is no hint whatsoever that the parks will be combined in that article. It makes sense to keep them separate, it will sell more platinum passes.

Correct. It's a no brainer.
"Cedar Point Shores will receive a completely new entrance gate".
There.

No, look at the rendering, it is to the left of the Magnum hill, which is where the entrance was to the go-karts and where the main entrance and locker rooms sit (maybe the mini golf as well). From the rendering, it does not sit where the bulk of the go-kart track was to the right of the magnum hill.

Wait, they're adding onto Hotel Breakers? Again? Or is it Breakers Express? Leave it up to the Sandusky Register to make me confused.

Wait a second....

I just looked at the Cedar Point website and they say the Cedar Point Shores project is going to redo the existing Soak City. Does that mean they are tearing out the wave pool and old slide complexes and redoing the whole thing from scrap brand new, or are they just adding onto the existing Soak City??

Geez Cedar Point, way to be confusing!....

What about Mean Streak....

RMC Mean Streak: 215ft Tall, 75mph, 4 inversions. 2020)ALL BLACK B&M Flying Coaster on Millennium Island. 2023 or 2025) Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter like Takabisha

They are adding a new 6-story tower to Hotel Breakers, to be ready in 2018. Breakers Express changes to Cedar Point Express next year with 60-plus new rooms and updated features/rooms.
