I wonder how this new state regulation could effect the Cedar Point arcade?

Good to hear we trying to tackle the the major problems here in Ohio.

Yeah, just another tax that solves nothing and is no good for anything other than improving the state budget. The key line in the article is "The staff has estimated the fees could generate about $500,000 a year".

"We're from the government, and we're here to help!"

This will do little to "weed out illegal slot machines" as the casino commission states.

Further, it would seem to me that many or all of the carnival skill games at CP would fall under these new rules, no? What about the three point challenge? Would it now be subject to the rule stating that prize value cannot exceed $10??

I'm honestly surprised that the prize limit is so low. For example, if I'm reading this correctly, under the new law the ubiquitous "Knock It Off" machines wouldn't be able to offer lighters anymore; since their supposed value is often $25-30, the wholesale is likely somewhere around $15. If they find a source for wholesale lighters under $10 (if they haven't already), then there's no problem. I guess either prizes like these are going to be gone (like the jerseys and the TV in 3-Point Challenge) or they're going to go cheap and buy prizes that fit under the $10 threshold, at the expense of quality. At that point, who even wants to win a prize worth $10?

If this causes lower foot traffic to the games more than likely some of them will be getting replaced by rides i think.

I'm all for a dark ride replacing one of the arcades. I don't even know how they'll find room, but I trust them.

I wonder if they could have it so you're technically paying per ball, so each ball is a separate game, then you could trade-in/upgrade prizes to work up to a jersey. Or something along those lines.
