No more Cedars?

I just put in my application to work at CP again this summer, and I saw they updated the housing page on StarRez.

They listed housing rates for Commons, Commons Suites, and Bayside. I knew about the two new dorms being built, but I never heard any news about Cedars.

Does anybody have any more info about this?

It’s rumored to finally be torn down this offseason. There’s been no “official” word yet but the construction of two new dorms at Commons would make sense.

There was a newspaper article where Cedar Point buses will take care of transporting employees from Housing to the park. SPARC (city of Sandusky transportation) will now transport employees from Commons to places in Sandusky, such as Walmart, Meijer, the Mall, etc. IF there is not a on - point housing, more cedar point employees will need transportation from the park to housing, especially on parking ban days. So, if Cedar Point buses will only be transporting employees back and forth (not the Walmart / Mall trips) there will be more buses available for the employees to get to work / get home from the park after work.

How does the quote go...."If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it......"

Or...."If a Cedars is torn down and nobody is around to see it....."

"Tiiiiiimberrrrrrr!"

I'm thinking that if Cedars gets torn down and with the new dorms being developed on the mainland, this means that all employees will be housed on the mainland. As for what could replace Cedars, I'm wondering if they may build a new hotel there, as it would make more sense for a hotel to be near the Marina and have some sort of historical significance (considering how long ago Cedars was built) compared to having Sandcastle Suites stay, being relatively far away from the parks and attractions.

Don't think it will be a hotel. There is more than enough room for one of those where Lighthouse Point was. If anything they will add more parking and facilities for the marina in that area. If were lucky maybe a new restaurant. A walkover bridge or stop light for the crosswalk would be nice as well.

Personally, I’d like to see perimeter road more straightened out in that area rather than how it is routed around the Cedars building currently.

With that said, I’d also like to see somethings that benefit the boaters on the marina. This includes moving Human Resources building, and completely blocking off that parking lot strictly for those on the marina.

I've checked the Cedar Point Employee Housing portal and there is an event page still up that occurred on December 13th called "Cedars Hotel Farewell Tour: 1915-2018." It's finally coming down.

I'll bet there are some interesting stories about that place.

All last year there has been mechanical gates with keycard access to that lot. Your wish has already been granted.

Oh, I am not part of the marina group. So I wouldn’t really call it a “wish” my friend. But those on the marina spend quite a bit, and it’s he nice to have some new offerings for them. However, those who are going to HR to process in are allowed in that lot, no?

Seasonal processing in has been moved off point for a while now.

Really? Interesting. Because my paperwork has always said to report to HR first. Which is where I would fill out all of my forms, get my name tag done, and my employee ID printed out. Curious where it moved to now ;)

It's moved to the Cedar Point Training Center right off point, in front of the employee lot.

TwistedWicker77, starting in the 16 season they had housing and company training off site across the street from Commons. Then in 17, you reported directly there instead of HR for your "First Day of Work" which was everything previously done at HR, company training, and housing training all in one go. It's a lot smoother process than it used to be.

Oh, heck that must be nice.

I'm glad processing in is becoming a smoother process. In my first couple of years (2009 - 2011), it would literally take hours (no joke 3+ hours) to fill out the paperwork, get ID, wardrobe paperwork, etc.

True-that. I remember when they let us pick our process in time; I would always choose the 8:00 a.m. time to avoid the long lines at HR.

Excited to see what the future of that location will be, and if Perimeter Road is re-routed.
