“On the Clock” Must Haves

CoasterKyle1121's avatar

What are the must haves, as well as tips and tricks as far as what you should bring to work? Not including what you should have in housing, just “on the clock” stuff. I know it’s still early, but I like to plan ahead so I can do some budgeting in case I need to do any shopping.

Backpack, wrist watch (waterproof/water resistant) for when it rains, money for Stockade/Bistro, if you haven’t already, invest in a rain suit and wind suit, I would keep them in your car; (if you’ll have one there) if not, keep them in your back pack, for ride operators, on days you are scheduled for a split shift, make sure to bring a change of clothes so you can ride the rides during your split (if you want to). Lense wipes for those with glasses, (trust me). Transparent, (able to see what’s inside) water bottle for water. I think that pretty much covers it. If I’m forgetting anything let me know.

I'll add some to what is above. Water bottles do not have to be clear, I've used a really nice stainless steel bottle from Amazon that keeps my ice literally all day the past two summers. Also plan on bringing a second pair of socks for those rainy days, your feet will thank you. Not so much for on the clock, but have at least two pairs of white shoes, you don't wanna be wearing wet shoes the day after it rains. They also sell crewneck hoodies in the commons store/munchery, regardless how hot it gets out during the day, you'd be surprised how much the temperature can drop after sunset.

Having two pairs of shoes is also for the fact that you will literally wear them out with all the walking you will do. Speaking of shoes, invest in good pairs of shoes, not the $5 Wal Mart shoes that will last you a week and a half. Your feet / ankles will thank you at the end of the summer if you have good comfy shoes. The only other thing I will add to the list is sunscreen. Wear sunscreen. A lot of the employees work in the direct sunlight and sunscreen is very important.

Thank you, this helps a lot! Do they sell the rain coats (I believe I’ve seen blue ones before) and if so when would they sell them (before or during the season)? And for the crew necks, are they considered to be uniform? Like could I wear one to the park if I’m just visiting?

Rain suits, wind suits and the various colored crew necks were all sold in the commons store and munchery, available at all times during the season. Check early and frequently, as they do run out of sizes. Last I heard the crew necks could be worn when in the park as a guest.

Set ~$40 aside for your crew sweatshirt if you are in rides. My sweatshirts are one of my favorite memorabilia from working there (written as I wear my Giant Wheel Triangle shirt). They are unique, and usually will have your name somewhere on the back

Walmart is actually a great place to get work shoes. Be sure to exchange them on "day 89" and you will get 6 months of performance. Keep your receipt and box.

Since you're at Fling, sunglasses are an absolute must. The ride area is really out in the open with no tree cover and when you have constant riders there the only position in the shade is Flight Suiting.

Just make sure you have sunglasses that don't have really reflective lenses, those aren't allowed

For the 2018 season, they got rid of the split shifts for ride operators.

Wow, I’m surprised by that. How would the schedule work if someone is scheduled for an O-6; (Open to 6)? Because when I last worked there, the O6’s would leave for the day as soon as the splits came back for the last 4 or 5 hours depending on closing time.

Umm.. you work the whole shift that you are scheduled? So, say, open to 6pm. Just a guess.
