Overtime

So, I know that we don't get paid overtime, but my hiring manager said something about how since it's a seasonal job we still get paid for more hours. How many hours per week are actually paid for and how many are just wasted time?

You will get paid for how many how per week you worked. Many times, it will be over 40 hours. (Meaning, if you work 43.5 hours in a week, you will get paid for 43.5 hours for that week). Hours vary between departments and throughout the summer. In the beginning of the summer and at the end (low staffing), you will more hours than peak season. Don't worry, they won't quit paying you after hitting 40 hours per week.

Yes, you will get paid the rate on your job offer for all hours worked. For example in 2015 I averaged around 50 hours a week, and got paid for 50 hours a week. In 2016, I averaged around 50-60 hours a week, depending on the time of season, and got paid for 50-60 hours a week.

Okay, awesome. Thank you guys!

How do they get out of paying overtime?

Pretty sure it's this exemption:

29 USC 213

3. any employee employed by an establishment which is an amusement or recreational establishment, organized camp, or religious or non-profit educational conference center, if (A) it does not operate for more than seven months in any calendar year, or (B) during the preceding calendar year, its average receipts for any six months of such year were not more than 33⅓ per centum of its average receipts for the other six months of such year, except that the exemption from sections 206 and 207 of this title provided by this paragraph does not apply with respect to any employee of a private entity engaged in providing services or facilities (other than, in the case of the exemption from section 206 of this title, a private entity engaged in providing services and facilities directly related to skiing) in a national park or a national forest, or on land in the National Wildlife Refuge System, under a contract with the Secretary of the Interior or the Secretary of Agriculture;

Season does not get OT, you just get a ton of hours per pay...

If they had to pay OT...oh boy would their labor expense be alot higher...At one point I was pushing 70-almost 80 a week. To think I used to do that too..

The above statements are not 100% accurate. Some seasonal positions do get overtime. I think that all the union trades seasonal workers get OT. The ones in our division do...
