Potential Disaster Transport refurbishment

If you're looking for that feeling, you better go ride a waterslide.

If you thought DT was boring inside, you don't want to ride it outside.

I like it as Avalanche Run but I was young and compared to the rest of the rides of the time, it was exciting. Being on the beach, it sounded like thunder as the cars rolled through the trough. But the rides that have gone up since have diminished its excitement. It is more of a family ride that the younger kids can still ride so I think it should stay or, if it is replaced, at least replace it with something for a larger audience. I still like it and would prefer it to be open air, but if I recall, the reason it was enclosed was due to having trouble with keeping sand out of the trough. If it stays, I can assume it would remain enclosed.

You know, we joke about DT being a cheap knock off, but excluding the outside appearance, the original theme was actually impressive for its time I thought. Maybe it was because I was 5-6 years old, but the theme was certainly what got me hooked on the ride as a kid.

There used to be incredible detail and build up while waiting in line for the slightly disappointing, yet enjoyable ride. I remember my original ride on it clearly. My review was that the theming was awesome, but the ride was too short. At the time, this seemed to be the common complaint while hearing guests exit - not that the ride itself or theme was lacking.

Regardless, that didn't stop me from going home and building my own Disaster Transport in our driveway with chalk and ramps. Looking at the ride 22 years later, this is a little more embarrassing to admit.

Not a fan, tear it down and put another coaster up with a great view of the water.

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

I agree with you Ffej it was actually pretty cool when it was in its prime theming wise. I would try to ride that several times a day if they line wasn't too bad. Then several years later I go back and it was like what happened?? I really think that if CP would have kept the theming up all along with this ride there wouldn't be the constant yearning to get rid of it. Really a shame they let it get how it is.

I've been hearing some interesting things lately about development at the front of the park, but I'm not sure if it affects DT or not. I so hope it does.

Jeff - What sort of things have you been hearing??

The kind of stuff that would end a lot of the bitching and moaning about dinosaurs.

Then it must be really juicy stuff. It would take a lot to kill off that wave of complaints.

No coaster will ever be too fast or too tall!

Asteroids? Why?

Imagine your favorite tv show. You've been through it all. The ups, the downs, the crazy coincidences and then bang! They tell you what it's all about. Would you be happy? Does it make sense? How come it all ended in a church? - Joker

Well done!

Perhaps it is related to the supposed "big" announcement in the upcoming year (the one Kinzel alluded to at last year's Coastermania).

Either way, if it gets rid of the warehouse, I am happy.

I would like to see some kind of fountain either similar to Kings Island/Dominion of Geauga Lake. I could also see Space Spiral getting a nice refurb with the next attraction in that area.

IMO, the front of the park just as you enter has been in a bad need of a make-over for quite some time. Similar to what they are doing to Celebration Plaza, it could use a very simplistic overall "tone" (not going as far to say theme)...some architectural consistency to bring it all together. Nothing over-the-top, but there just seems to be some "dead space" up there...not to mention all the waterfront view that is blocked by DT.

Any sort of big announcement that has anything to do with that front part of the park will no doubt affect DT. Since the Windseeker and WT areas are nice and fairly new, that really only leaves the area that the big box is at for any addition.

If the rumors are true about a coaster to where the Turnpike cars are, I could see Calypso moving to where Chaos used to be.

How about a coaster at Turnpike cars and where DT stands....

That would be very suprising as it would cross the enire park from side to side.

I like DT as a ride and experience but I also agree that it takes up a lot of space that could be better used for nearly anything else. I dont know but if the ride is still in good condition, Id argue to just move it to another park that doesnt have such valauble sights/real estate and maybe rennovate it there giving the ROI more bang.

Give DT to MiAdv... we would be happy with it up here! I have a feeling that's the only way we would get anything "new" anyway.

Well the only theme of the main midway is the mismatch of themes. Nothing says Cedar Point-Second oldest amusement park like a Island themed food stand, a pirate ship and bayou building and a cinderblock bathroom.
