I'm sorry, but when do you think they built Valravn? Or Dragster?

In case anyone missed it, Kings Dominion tweeted a picture of Snoopy peaking through the fenced in Hurler with the caption 'hey, no snoopin around'. Looks like it's been taken down but there's another one of Snoopy looking at the white survey marking right next to Hurler. Off-topic right now but may indirectly effect Mean Streak.

Valravn was blessed with favorably mild weather. Dragster took a year and a half to build.

And it is absolutely true that crane work can't be done in bad weather, specifically high winds.

Very true about crane work and wind, not a good mix and there's definitely a lot of wind on the peninsula.

Speaking of wind, cranes, and working at heights on the CP peninsula, does anyone know what months Mean Streak was built during?

Looking at the photos, and knowing that HW didn't yet exist, construction looks to have begun immediately after the end of the season (note green leaves on the trees).

So best guess would be September 1990, with construction wrapping up in April of 1991. So, ~8 months.

That's what it looked like to me as well but wasn't sure if they started earlier. I know they did quite a bit of high work during the winter based upon done pictures with snow on the ground.

MF appears to be the same way, according to Wiki, which is of course never wrong... Nearly the entire vertical construction took place during the off season.

It might very well end up being true that a conversion of MS will take much longer to complete than the original construction. It is also true that winters can be harsh on the peninsula. However, numerous coasters have been built in the peninsula during the off season months. Therefore, I see no reason one can definitely conclude that something cannot happen to MS during the off season. It might not happen, but it most certainly could happen.

Straw man.

Who here is saying "it's literally impossible for them to convert MS in time for opening day 2017 because winter"?

Instead, some, including me, are saying that it doesn't make much sense from a ROI perspective to do a 19-years-in-the-making update to SC, completely redo the resort gate, redo Challenge Park (assuming some of it will stick around), and convert MS all in one year (in addition the all the other "minor" stuff they do annually).

There are many reasons they may need a long time to convert MS. Maybe they're doing something very substantial to it, exceeding what's been done with other RMC projects. Maybe the excessive maintenance costs of MS are increasingly difficult to justify given ridership. Maybe the state of the track/structure would require excessive off-season work if they were to reopen next season.

Maybe it's a bit of each, and they figure they should just close it up early this year, and move staff elsewhere, since it's around that time of year when staffing becomes more difficult.

At any rate, the impression I get is that the RMC 2017 crowd seems far more confident in their out-of-their-derriere prediction than does the RMC 2018 crowd (whose prediction is also out-of-their-derriere, to be fair).

Perhaps it is misinterpretation of reading some posts on the internet but my main issue in regards to this discussion was the talk of absolutes - on either side that a conversion would or would not happen because of this reason. I'm sure that in some of my rambles in this or any of the other 18 threads we have about MS I used absolute terms as well. Many here have indeed brought up good points of why it wont be done in 2017, but there are also many good points on why it is possible to be done in 2017.

Some things that are brought up quite a bit are weather and the length of past RMC projects. While these points make sense there is also another side to them. For example the crews who worked on Iron Rattler might have only worked Monday-Friday and that's it. Whereas the work agreements for the crews at CP could include a normal 5 day work week but if there was a weather related delay on Monday then they will make it up on Saturday/Sunday. That happens in the industry quite often, which is one of the many reasons why I said you can't look at those projects to determine how long a MS conversion would take.

All this talk and yet, in the end RMC could very well not touch MS although I hope they do.

Wonder which webcams view we'll lose when they move them to MS and SC

The cams are centrally located and can zoom in far. I don't think we'll lose any.

What if Cedar Point were to do a sandcastle suites renovation instead of the soak city expansion that you are all so confident about? I could see CP doing that this year while saying nothing about the Mean Streak renovation. Then they leave the door open for the Soak City expansion, the RMC Mean Streak, and maybe something else at the Shoot the Rapids site all to open in 2018.

What if Cedar Point were to hand gold bars to everyone as they walk through the gate? That would be awesome.

What if the big 2017 project is a record breaking number of new web cams?

There's a large spot of recently cleared land right next to Soak City and something is "afoot"...

There has been a great deal of discussion whether or not CP would do 2 projects in one year, so yeah... Why the heck not do a flume dark ride at the STR Rapids site, a Soak City expansion, and an RMC of MS all in the same year.

All of that seems well thought out, logical, and is the simplest explanation ( I love Occams razor btw) so yes indeed 2018 will be epiczzz

I bet the Funnel Water Slide from Knotts Soak City is making its way to Cedar Point and MS is coming down. CP has once before stated huge announcement and it wasn't great LaBron James Foundation remember 2 years ago.

Thats my 2 cents.

You don't have to be an English major or poet to write something that makes sense and is understandable. Your previous post had me scratching my head also, just a little more effort would go a long way.
