I like the disclaimer Walt, haha. Because only in a coaster enthusiast community is a new ride announcement more important than a man's life...

That story wasn't about that guy's life. It was about the results of one very poor decision in his life.

It was a tragedy, to be sure. But tragedy doesn't necessarily equate to importance.

Relating to this article, the transformation of Rougarou is something I will cherish forever!

Breakers is at the top of my list. Didn't stay there this past season, but managed to walk thru every visit to admire the awesome transformation. The new fire pit area is one of my favorite spots to relax with a coffee and enjoy the warm flame and cool lake breeze! Glad to see that hotel finally got the TLC it deserved. You can definitely see the positive changes happening from park leadership and company as a whole. Can't wait for 2016! 😃

But the question wasn't what was more important, but which news story was more important. Outside devotees of coaster enthusiast websites and residents of the local media market*, most guests were likely unaware a death had occurred. Whereas a new ride, especially a bazillion record-breaking coaster, would be of interest to many guests and potential guests.

*Yes, that fellow's tragic death did hit national media -- see Gio's breathless coverage on GMA -- but most people watching found the story interesting -- and forgettable.

Yeah, to put it in another perspective, is a store about the Public Square renovations or a story about someone being hit by a train because they disobeyed the crossing signal more important to the future of the City of Cleveland?

One man's poor decision and the resulting tragedy to himself and his family does not necessarily make it a story that is important over items that are significant to the future of the park. I believe my top three were Breakers, Valravn and Rougarou.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I'm willing to bet that if you questioned random people on the street most would be more aware of the Valravn announcement than the details of the death. They know the coaster is coming, it's going to be huge and they'll talk about what the coaster might belike and if they want to ride it blah, blah, etc. and the other story at this point is likely in thier minds as "oh, someone died trying to get their phone didn't they?" and that will be the extent of their interest becasue let's face it people die everyday. How many details do you know/remember of the people in your community that met tragic ends over the last year? I know my recall of details would be sketchy and yet I probably remember more than most because of my husband being an EMS worker and these kinds of things being dinner time conversation at our house. The news of death being 2nd instead of at the top of the list does not mean nobody cares.
