What's wrong with the Midway Market?

I've heard mixed reviews on here and I just want to know why so many people dislike it. I've never eaten there before, but I'm curious and wouldn't mind trying it this season.

^Never eaten there eighter, but probably never will because of what people say about it on here. I always wondered why it is so hated.

I've eaten there once, and I have to say they have a good selection of food and the quality is fine. I don't know why people are complaining about it. For all you can eat it's a good price.

It's just like any buffet. You either like the food or you don't. It's a hit or miss. I personally have no dislike with it, but wouldn't mind if it was more like KI's Rivertown Junction. Cause their food variety and selection was fantastic.

The reason there are mixed review because the food quality is not consistant. I have been there once and the food was really good. Then another time it was just overpriced food that you find in the employee cafeteria. a.k.a. the rest of the gross park food shoved into one buffet.

I go there at least once a trip to CP and never had a problem. Might be because I am already used to crap a few days that is high priced at the stands. I find it to be the best non-chain food around the park (i.e. FDaves is better). I also go during peak time and the food is probably fresher and not setting there at that time.

If you can eat at the Eat n Park, Golden Coral or Ponderosa buffets you should be fine.

Also, they usually have some sort of coupon in the Getaway Guides.

Jugga's got serious beef with the place.

I don't see where all the hatred comes from, I mean it's obviously not a gourmet restaurant, but I think the food isn't bad, and some of the items (like the ham, believe it or not) are actually downright good. It takes a lot for me to say something like that because a.) I don't normally like ham, and b.) I'm a zagat.com member, and I'm into "good" food when I do go out.

I actually don't mind the fare there too badly. I dissed MM in a different thread, but really I was just tossing John an easy lob to have fun with. Apparently he must be off having a life or something. (Of all the nerve.)

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

I have eaten there 4 times one time was great much better than i expected, 2 times was ok and the last time was just plain BAD BAD! I am not a huge fan of buffets but when you are with lots of people with different taste its the easy place to go.

The last time i went we never got drinks, the buffet was a mess and it was not crowded. The food was not at the temps it should be everything was pretty close to room temp and was just not ok even for a buffet.

I think some one else hit it just right its hit or miss, for me its more miss thank hit.

I've always found Midway Market to be pretty good. Don't expect gourmet food but it is fine for an all you can eat buffett. It's is very similar to Hometown Buffett and places like that. Note that they have a different selection of food for lunch and dinner, with dinner priced higher. Lunch has burgers and more food like that with dinner having carved meats and a nicer selection of other food.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Like any buffet, if you go during a peak time, the food is more fresh; the hot food is hot and the cold food is cold.

I ate there Labor Day weekend of '07 with our group of 10. It was easy for a large group. The selection was typical buffet food of the non-chinese variety. And unlimited soft drinks.

As for price....if you don't eat much, it's a waste of money. Even at CP prices.

I haven't eaten at Miday Market in a few years, but I enjoyed it the last time I was there. Now if I'm going to stuff myself at a buffet I just hop in the car and hit up East of Chicago instead.

Patience Ensign. See, it is this kind of impatience that has made your survivability rate on away team missions so low.

3 things:

Quality, Cost, Service.

If they at least hit 2 out of 3, I'd be ok with it, but they actually manage to screw up 4 out of 3. I've tried it twice, I won't try it again.

Midway Market is my favorite eatery at CP. It's a place that has something for every taste. The quality is similar to the places mentioned by others and it's the best value for your food dollar in the park. The price seems high , but it's all you can eat with refillable drinks and deserts. If you just want a snack this is not the place for you. If you've got a few teenage boys it the motherlode. My family goes there often and for the most part the food and service has been good. I don't know why people complain about the service. Once in a while it may be off, but as often as we go I can't complain. Sometimes it can be messy especially after the teenagers have been there. Even then it's better than swatting away bugs and dodging seagulls and their bombs.

How much is does that standard buffet cost?

First rollback=opening weekend '09

I think it was $13.95 for lunch and $15.95 after 3pm for dinner last year. If you get there a little before 3 just prior to the change over, you can pay the lunch price and get the dinner food which is usually carved beef etc, instead of burgers. As I said before it seems high, but if you figure a burger/chicken finger basket is about $9 plus $3.50 or so for a drink that is not refillable MM is not bad. You are expected to tip though.

If the food is decent than that is not bad. Here in kent ohio, the local chinese buffet is 10 bucks inc. drink.

Yeah, compared to the food stands, MM's price isn't that unreasonable. It's handy when you're with a large group since they have a decent variety. Plus, they actually have some non-fried, non-greasy food options, such as a salad bar, but you don't have to wait for your order like at a sit-down restaurant. The only trick is that you really do need to be hungry enough to get your money's worth; depending on the day and who I'm with, I tend to graze at the park rather than eating all at once.

You'll pay almost 15 buck anywhere in the park for a dry burger, soggy fries and a coke so by comparison, MM is not a bad place to eat.
