Worried about my trip on friday

I've been having a problem recently where I've been graying out on some roller coasters. It happened to me a little on the Dragon Challenge at Universal Studios and Kraken and Sea Word Orlando. I'm just worried that it's gonna happen to me again like it did last August when I almost blacked out on Millennium.

Anybody experienced this or have any tips to prevent it?

Staying hydrated is the most important thing. Some folks say clenching their butt muscles helps, but as long as I am hydrated I am usually good to go.

And of course the obvious, take it easy if you need to and don't keep riding if something feels truly off.

Here is some old conversation on it:

As the bodies largest and strongest muscle group, squeezing the glutes (butt muscles) will help force blood to the head to help avoid grayouts on the first overbanked curve on Millennium Force or other rides.

Happens to me on the first drop of most roller coasters, usually worst on days where I've been standing in long lines in the heat, doing a lot of walking, not eating properly, and the amount of sleep from the previous night seems to also not help.

Makes one wonder if instilling a few drinking fountains in queue lines wouldn't be amiss. Hydration is super important, especially on hot days surrounded by concrete and humanity.

Hey Keegaan,

I had this experience a few years ago to the point that I had to get taken to the Cedar Point medical center and sit in a dark room for a while. I completely blacked out on Maverick, and then Millennium a little later in the day.

I traced my problem back to a REALLY unbalanced breakfast the morning of going to the park, as well as not drinking nearly enough water.

Make sure you eat plenty of protein and carbs before you go into the park... My normal pre-park breakfast now includes an omelet and toast from the Jolly Donut in Sandusky. I also make sure I drink water instead of pop while I'm there.

Good luck!

Yeah I should probably do this. The last time at CP I greyed out on almost every coaster I went on, but I thought it was because I only got an hour of sleep. I'm going to dunkin' donuts in the morning before I go and I'll probably get like a breakfast sandwich or something so I'm good until we decide to eat in the park.

Drinking soda or beer on a hot day in the park can actually be worse than not drinking anything. It amazes me how many folks who are thirsty decide to quench it with multiple bottles of soda or beer.

Soda is an OK thirst quencher but the alcohol in beer, of course, causes dehydration.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

So does caffeine & sugar in soda...

Caffeine has a slight dehydration effect and sugar a little more, but the amount of water in soda negates that and the drink has a positive hydration effect. Beer, not so much.

And that is from a beer connoisseur!

Actually, the carbonation is another thing that may cause dehydration. So, soda does not have any way to hydrate you.

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

I gotta disagree about soda not dehydrating... If I'm out in the sun I CAN NOT drink much soda. If I do, I get a ridiculous headache. Sometimes I get a little dizzy or my hands will start to shake and my legs will get weak. I really try to stick to water when out in the sun for long. And believe me, I'm a Mountain Dew & Coca-Cola addict.

Trip = Success!

I went on Millennium (30 minute wait!), Maverick (bout an hour because it broke down), Mine Ride, Measntreak (regret), Gemini, Magnum XL2000, Dragster (45 minute wait - closed because of wind, got right on when it opened again), Valravn (hour and a half), Raptor, Gatekeeper, Rougarou, Iron Dragon, and Blue Streak.

The longest line we had to wait in was Valravn, and that was only an hour and a half.

I only greyed out on the first turn on Millennium, so that was much better than my last trip!
