2013: Best Food Values

Kevinj's avatar

Just the latest example.

I was excited that they are now offering perch (although disappointed that it's in the form of a sandwich...seriously...you're right by the lake!).

I was expecting 6.99...maybe 8.99...but it was 11.99, served with fries. Joy.

But, in the spirit of giving things a try, I forked it over while my wife waited for Gatekeeper and I had the two little ones. Like I said, I'm willing to pay the price if it's good. The problem? Just pathetic, high-school cafeteria quality. I'm not a "foodie", but I do like to cook as a hobby, and I could make a much better piece of perch with my eyes closed. The bun was cheap, the fish was clearly not fresh and...well....chewy..and just not good.

So that was my food try for 2013.

I did have a good perch sandwich from the Road Trip food truck at CP. Nice bun and it was dressed with a tasty slaw and tarter sauce. Much closer to the price to value ratio we want.

Cp stockade...dollar fifty chili cheese fries and twenty five cent drinks...not bad

^ This! Love the patty melts (don't know if they still have those)

As for Famous Dave's, I haven't been impressed with their food. I'd swear it's just frozen meat reheated. Do they make the BBQ fresh on site? Still been trying to find a decent BBQ place north of the Mason - Dixon line, instead of eating at the "Fo 'Que" places up here. But I digress.

For me, the best "value" so far this season has come from the Road Trip truck. Had the cheeseburger, and it was delicious!

What IS this Road Trip food truck? Where?

Pete, I probably should have tried that. The one I got was across from Gatekeeper. I missed the truck.

Chris, I'm not sure if it has a schedule or not (I honestly haven't looked), but it's a little RV-looking vehicle that roams around. I've seen it parked by MaxAir quite a bit.

The Road Trip truck does have some really good food. I've had a few items off the menu and have yet to had a bad meal from it. But I do think one of the best deals in the park is the Johnsonville Brat meal you can get.

They do make it fresh on site, they have a smoker behind the restaurant by the boat docks. I haven't actually had BBQ down south, but in addition to Famous Dave's I've had Old Carolina BBQ and a couple of local places in Cleveland and to me Famous Dave's is right at the top of the list.

Having moved to Norther Ohio from Alabama, you just dont get the same BBQ in the north. Famous Dave's is pretty good in my book but I have yet to find good "southern" BBQ here.

Panda Express

Just wanted to clarify that you are simply listing this as a place you eat, not specifically that it is a good value.

Because I had lunch there on Ohio State Day and there were no thoughts of value after paying $15.10 for this. :)

Well you bought a drink, there's your problem. :)

Seriously though, that is pretty outrageous. I ate at the Panda at Kings Island over the weekend, and a two entree plate was under $10 and was loaded up with more than I could eat.

Kevin,
Don't get your hopes up too much for Disney food. While the actual sit-down restaurants are very good (and very pricey), the midway stands and cafeteria-type places are just as crappy and probably more expensive than CP. Just my opinion though. If you're going to Hollywood Studios, I'd highly recommend the Italian restaurant, and Raglan Road in Downtown Disney.

I have to say that Disney has food that is 100x better than what I had at CP 2 summers ago. I try to eat healthy and I couldn't find something like a grilled chicken sandwich on site. Even Chic-Fil-A has a reduced menu and didn't have grilled sandwiches. I was very disappointed. I was very happy that we stayed onsite and I brought enough food so we could eat breakfast and lunch in our room. We are returning to CP in a few weeks and I hope we can find a little bit of healthy food in the parks, I'm not even looking for cheap.

Well, there's always Subway, if you're not concerned with value.

Brandon

The Road Trip RV thing was parked near Millennium's entrance the two times I've went this year.

1. Millennium Force
2. Maverick
3. Top Thrill Dragster

I saw the RV parked at the front entrance, and driving through the park near sky ride. I had no clue what that thing was for.. Now I know. :)

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

Road Trip needs its own Twitter account, since both the location and menu are always changing.

Bret,

I must say you're the first that has ever had a negative thing to say about the food at Disney. I appreciate your opinion, though...like I said, our first family trip is coming next Spring so I have no real experience to speak of.

That said, we're going with the dining plan option, which was very reasonably priced in my opinion, so I don't plan on having to worry too much about the sticker shock on the prices.

And Walt, that would be nice. Especially since their perch appears to be superior. :)

After a little thought, what the biggest problem is to me at Cedar Point is one word: consistency.

Pete said he had a great perch sandwich, while mine was not. Tomorrow, the stand I went to might serve a great one, but then the next day a crappy one.

I've found most Disney quick-service locations to be, at the least, acceptable and in some cases, quite good.

The resort we will be at has a "quick-serve" location in it, and serves tandoori-oven roasted meats and veggies.

That sounds quite good. :)

You must not have eaten at the same ones as us, then. I'm talking about you, quick-service place across from the speedway cars in tomorrow land, and the quick serve place in the center of Epcot by the fountains. They seemed to be even worse than CP.... Old tired burgers and fries that had been sitting forever. Don't get me started on the salads

O'Hana, on the other hand, is a must-not-miss and probably had some of the best food I've ever had at an amusement park, or anywhere else for that matter.
