3rd hill

CP didn't want another Magnum, but why did they, for the most part, leave airtime out of the picture? Couldn't they have made the 3rd hill about as tall as the one next to it, only more broad to deliver the best sustained ejector air in the world? Just imagine flying over that hill at more than 50 mph, feeling like you're going to be put into orbit and then immediatly getting pressed back into your seat as you fly into that right turn, it would have been intense. MF has an awsome beginning, an awsome ending, but that whole island section is mediocre, MF lacks a good midpoint and the giant 3rd hill just doesn't cut it. I think they werent paying attention to the ride experience at that point, just caring about being as big as possible. There's supposed to be a good float at the top from the front, but towards the back, you cant even tell youre going over a hill. This seems like the obvious thing for them to do, so why didn't they do it? It would have beat out S:ROS at SFNE (which even the most loyal cp goers say is better), there would never have been a rollback, and it would have been cheaper by at least a million dollars which could have been put towards the next coaster. It just seems like the logical thing to do. Dont get me wrong, I love MF, but it really disappoints me that with the race for the biggest coaster, they overlook the little details and surprises that make a coaster great.
Hey I like the third hill and think iot gives good enough airtime as it is.

HA HA HA, MELLENIUM FORCE, YEAH BUDDY!
Who said the prerequsite (sp) for a good coaster has to include airtime?..Most people are predicting MF to be in the top 3 coasters of 2000.
No coaster is perfect. You can find a flaw in every one, but it is all subjective. We would all design it differently. Haven't been to CP yet, but I can't imagine that I am going to be disappointed in MF.
Oh, no question they knew what they were doing when they built that hill. They not only wanted speed on MF, I also think they wanted visuals. Have you ridden MF at night? On that hill, the Mean(Headache) Streak looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL, even though it is no fun. So does the rest of the park, especially with Magnum XL-200 directly in front of you, only 23 feet higher than you! I do wish there was more airtime on that hill because MF is the only coaster I really like in the back, just because of the longer drop time at the beginning. But, you can't build a perfect ride for everyone, even though MF is close!:)
Too many negative G's sustained for a long period of time causes anurisms(sp).
It's all a matter of preference. What you want from a coaster. I have to agree with boots. I would have liked more airtime. I am fairly new to this site and hardly ever post. I'm sure I'll get blasted for not agreeing that MF is the best thing to hit planet earth, but I was a little disappointed. Magnum and Rapter are still my favorites. MF is all about speed and is very smooth. It is a great ride, but I didn't feel any G's and to me it wasn't very intense.

I keep hearing people say there's no airtime, but are they riding the same coaster as I am? The Force that I rode last night sure did have a lot of air. I was out of my seat all the way down the first drop, floated up and over the lagoon both ways and got a very nice hop on the bunny hill. Mind you I wasn't anywhere near the front either.

I agree with Jeff, I rode the lapbar 3/4 of the ride. The only time I wasn't was when the car was turning. This is probably due to the fact I am 16 and only weigh about 100 lbs, but I would think this coaster would give anybody air.

I have one question also, This third hill is the 182ft. hill right?
Wait, there's TONS of air on this coaster! I had a so much, on the 3rd, return, and bunny hills that I was being forced into the lapbar. I love how big that hill is, you float right over it. I also don't understand why, when all the people getting off MF say it's the best coaster, and are screaming, and raving about it, that there are so many people turning against it already. I personally think it's the greatest coaster I've ever ridden. It's amazing.
What I was trying to say is that MF doesn't have any unexpected thrills, at least not for me, and that if the 3rd hill was smaller about 20-30 ft, the airtime would catch you off guard and you'd want to ride again just to go over that hill. More air on the 3rd hill would be the easiest and most obvious way of surprising people. I don't think I'm as airtime sensitive as most people are. MF is still my favorite, though.
Re Jeff:
It's because in the very back, there's no airtime at all. I know because the first time I rode, I didn't catch any air. Not even on the bunny hill. The next time I came back, I sat in car 6 and I got air on the magnum hill, the return hill, and the bunny hop! I thought the air was great the way it was gentle and floaty and not forceful like Magnum's. That sort of airtime seems more unnatural and painful. I'd much rather have that great 3 seconds of floating on MF's 3rd hill!

I've had airtime in the back just as it is in the front. It just depends on how "warmed up" the ride is. I've never had a ride with NO airtime, not even once. If 25 rides have taught me anything, it's that the ride has tons of personality.

Wind seems to be an important factor in how much air there is on the ride. I suspect that the mixed reports we're hearing on this subject are largely due to the fact that people are riding it on different days. Windy days will suck all the airtime right out of MF.
airtime is awesome and i cant wait to ride MF. and im just wondering if there are any painful moments on the MF..like the first drop or banked turns
I haven't ridden MF yet, but I personally prefer long drops to air time. Therefore, I think the third hill looks awsome (not to mention the first).

There are no painful moments at all on MF. It's as smooth as a ride on air. It's so smooth, it makes even B&M rides seem rough by comparison.
I sat in 6-2, the 3rd and return hill had what seemed like a pulling sensation at the top that wanted to get you floating but it was going a few mph too slow. The pull on the return hill was stronger.
I had airtime on all three hills. And plenty of it. For those that have not, it may help if you don't pull your lap bar all the way down.

Pete I agree with you totally. MF is so smooth that you dont even notice or think about the roughness or smoothness. The drop is just incredible and the banked turns are really fun to lean out on. As for the airtime issue, to get more airtime on these hills like the 3rd, do you guys kind of "cheat" the lapbars by like lifting up your legs higher than usual so that the bar isnt very tight? Because I have been in the 4th and 8th car and haven't felt any airtime at all on the 3rd hill.
