A new rumor?

I'm not trying to start any rumors. It's just what I heard today. I heard that Millennium Force is closed for a pending law suit about someone complaining about damage done by it's g-forces. I don't believe it but, two different people both claim they heard it on the news. Is there any truth to that or is it another "magnum is sinking" rumor? Forgive me if this is silly but since I live in Michigan, this is really the only way I can confirm/deny any rumors. Thanks.

...and Millennium Force has both lower jerk rates and lower maximum G-force than either Mantis:TCFKAB or Wildcat. Cedar Point management knows this, they've got the accelerometer data, and anybody who would try to bring suit against a park over G-forces should know better. You can't challenge the parks or the ride manufacturers on forces because they've got the data to prove you wrong, and they can repeat the measurements with very little difficulty.

I'd say this goes into the "highly unlikely" category.

Good. :)

Wouldn't this fall under the "Ride at Your Own Risk" policy? I don't think it is possible to sue a park for dammage done by a ride, they just can't do it.
I agree "eggs". I got a headache after riding Mantis (last year) and I was joking around with an ride operator, by saying I was going to sue them (CP) for brain damage. I was just joking... but with the Mantis ops, being as hard-nosed as they are (or were), they said it was my fault because that falls under the "Ride at your OWN RISK" policy. I just shut up then.
That's a silly policy. Everyone knows that if anything bad happens to us on a coaster, CP will get sued. Ride at your own risk or not.

Well, not really. What it all boils down to is bad publicity. If someone fakes a fall and sues Cedar Point they will probably get some money. They might not even have a case that would stand up in court but Cedar Point's reputation might get hurt from it so they just settle. Of course they expect people to do such things so they fit this into there yearly budget. Imagine that. I wonder who pays for it in the long run?

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
Where is this "Ride at your own risk" policy anyway? I have never seen ANY attraction at Cedar Point say that I'm riding at my own risk.

I think you agree to the policy when you buy your ticket. It also has is on the "You must be as tall as this _ _" stick to ride."
It's in the small print. Infact there is alot of stuff about your safty and if you should ride it.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
From a news story last year, 7/21/99:

A northwest Ohio company that operates an amusement park in Kansas faces legal problems tonight.

NewsChannel5 reports Sandusky's Cedar Fair and two other companies that operate World's Of Fun, Fun Park, are being sued by a woman whose son was injured in a roller coaster accident last weekend.

The coaster's cars derailed and the woman says her son suffered head and facial injuries. Thirteen other people were also injured.

So I'm assuming if you want to sue you can. Don't know what the outcome of the case was.

Whats life if you never get to the point?

The sad fact of the matter is, no matter what any park puts on a ticket or a sign at the entrance to a ride patrons can (and do) sue for all sorts of things, including injuries that are a direct result of their own behavior. To wit - Knott's Berry Farm last year settled a lawsuit with a woman who sued over a broken leg she suffered while on their rapids ride. How did this occur? Despite all the signs that warned "You will get wet on this ride" she decided after boarding she did not want to get wet. As the raft approached a waterfall she unfastened her seat belt AND JUMPED OUT, breaking her leg. Knott's lawyers advised the settlement because they felt she would most likely win at trial. This is a particularly extreme (and offensive) example, but it's a wonder, given the litigious climate out there, that parks open rides with any thrills at all.

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.
Well I don't think CP's policy is ride at your own risk. Not even the Ripcord Boarding Passes say that and you would think that, if anything, would have one. If it is policy, they're not doing a very good job of making it known, and someone could probably sue because of it. :)

I think that Rock Down2g is the kind of person that would sue CP on something as corny as too much g forces. If you can't handle the ride or intensity then go hang out in kiddy land. Im sick of hearing people cry about too much of this and not enough of that. Be happy with what you got.
For your second post, Rowdy, ur gettin awful rude. He's got the right to his opinion and you don't need to bash him. Let's all try to get along here, come on!
All im sayin is the ride is sweet and some people just cant handle somethin so drastic and those people who do ride and then cry because they say it hurts need to suck it up.
I hope all of you are saying this with some experience to back it up. Magnum's g's hurt more than MF's. It just seems like this would be a hot issue since it's the tallest, fastest, etc. People target the big rides because people have been saying for a while, "We can't go any higher, the human body can't handle it." This isn't true, you've just got to have a more gentle curve at the bottom of the hill and presto, same g's or less as any other coaster.
Re Rowdy:
Wow. It amazes me how much some people talk when they have no idea what they're talking about. "RockDown seems like the type to sue for too many Gs" You mean the same RockDown that's been on every ride at CP multiple times and the same RockDown leaving for the US Air Force Academy in Colorado to become an Air Force Pilot in two weeks? Why don't you go read a book or something, or better yet, Get a life.
