Altor's Coaster Challenge

I thought of this last year and when I was looking at the 100 reasons to get a Season Pass, it kind of sounded like CP would be doing a "Coaster Challenge" of their own in June. So, to keep things a little less confused, mine is named "Altor's Coaster Challenge."

How fast can you ride the 18 roller coaster tracks designed for adult riders at Cedar Point?

The rules:

  1. You must ride all 18 roller coaster tracks in one operating day.
    a. Yes, we are counting 18 tracks...you must ride both the red and blue trains on Gemini.
    b. Yes, Pipe Scream is a roller coaster for the purposes of this challenge.
    c. Yes, Woodstock Express is an "adult" roller coaster for the purposes of this challenge.
    d. No, Wilderness Run is NOT included in this challenge. If you are with a child small enough to get you on that, you should be spending the day with him/her, not trying to complete some silly Internet challenge. If you do not have a small child, I don't want you walking around asking parents if you can ride with their child.
    e. Yes, you must ride Mean Streak to complete the challenge.
  2. You must go through the standby queue for all eighteen. Fast Lane is cheating (I'm a cheapskate), but use of early entry and ERT is not.
  3. Planning helps, but poop happens. TTD and/or Maverick will likely go down at some point during your attempt. Rain my foil your plans. You don't get credit for waiting in line for an hour and reaching the station only to be turned away by a mechanical failure or rain. Try again later.
  4. Similar to 3: The red and blue trains on Gemini must both be running. You can't ride the red train twice to get credit. This is part of the "planning" fun. The park has to be busy enough for them to be running both sides, but not too busy to slow you down.

I tried this a couple times last year. It was kind of fun (for me) to try to plan my day. I would have completed it one Friday night, but a storm hit when I was on the steps to the Maverick platform. I had that, MF, GK, and WT to go and over two operating hours left. I came back in the next morning to finish the circuit before 10:30, but it didn't count, per my own rules.

On Sunday, August 30, I entered the Magnum queue at 1:39 and completed the 17th coaster when I exited Rougarou at 7:15. That's 5 hours and 36 minutes, and it included a swing on Skyhawk because I can't go to that end of the park and not get on Skyhawk.

Have fun. Oh yeah...no prizes or anything. I'm just curious how fast some of you could do this. Post your results for bragging rights.

5 1/2 hours and 17 coasters? Jeez. I got a fastpass and still didn't get on all the coasters last august... wicked twister ended up breaking down.

If you subtract Mean Streak, which, you know, hasn't opened for the season yet, but replaced with wilderness run, I've done the challenge in only, you know, 2 consecutive days...

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

It's actually not impossible to do. The best days to complete this is either at the beginning of the season (now) or at the end of the season (August 17th or later) when school is in session and the park is slower. I took my family to CP my last year of working at the park (2014) and after the day was over, I realized we only missed 1 roller coaster, but had time to ride it we actually wanted to. (Didn't have early entry, fast passes, or ERT).

Weather and time permitting, I may attempt this the next time I go...does it count if TTD rolls back, or do we need to do it again?

Never had a TTD rollback (I don't ride TTD enough). However, if it does have a rollback, doesn't the train just relaunch and (hopefully) makes it over the hill the next time?

I'm fairly certain that this could have been completed fairly easily on some weekdays the last couple weeks. TTD and Valravyn being the two possible deal breakers.

Unfortunately for me, both my kids are under 54", so I don't get an opportunity to try unless I go by myself. I've only done that once so far this season and that was a Saturday morning.
