Any aerial photos of GL?

I've never been to GL before and I was wondering if there are any aerial photos out there, similar to the photos that have been posted for C.P. in the past. Maybe on the Terra server?

Just wondering.

Tons, in the park offices :) Some were taken last year, so I would think there should be some online somewhere.

Here is a good shot. GL is on the left and the wildlife side on the right.

Zoom in for a better view.

I think he meant the ride side is on the left and the wildlife side is on the right. ;)

Actually, it would be Sea World on the right, because the photo was from before the purchase of Sea World Ohio by Six Flags. Also, notice that the shopping center isn't in the photo, nor X-Flight, or the walkway across the lake? September 2000. (I think is says the date right on there.)

This photo or series of photos is from the breif period of Six Flags Ohio.

That's an interesting photo. I would like to know where all the property that GL owns is at. The combined Sea World and Geauga Lake areas seem like they could be about 150 acres. If the lake is 50 acres, that leaves 490 acres somewhere. Is all the property northeast of the lake, across the road?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Rides side was roughly 250 acres(give or take) and the wildlife side was roughly 200 acres(give or take) and its also about a 2.5 mile walk around the lake when the floating bridge was moved to boomtown.

Looking at that now, I wonder where people keep getting that there were "north" and "south" gates when they sure appear east and west to me.

What time does the water show start?

the orientation of the park map?
Ive always wondered that too Jeff. I always figured the gates were east and west of the lake, but I could be a directional illiterate.

I'm thinking the orientation of the park map as well. Most park maps start at the main gate...without looking at a compass marking (if it's on the park map in the first place) people would "assume" the main gate is "south" and the wildlife gate is "north".

If people assume that the top of a map is north, then the wildlife gate should be considered the "north" gate and the rides gate should be the "south gate." The map is depicted with the life side on top and the rides side on bottom. This is oppiste as the life side is considered the south side and the ride side is considered the north side.

If you look at the map closely, the life side gate is south of the ride side gate. All tho it's realy south east of the ride side gate. (more east then south)

From what I have been told, the north/south orientation may have to do with the park being on Rt 43 (A north/south road). The North entrance is north on that road, and, well, you get what I am saying, right?

From my memory of the 2001 season it started as the north side and south side, which old GLP was definately north of old SWO. From there the gates are labeled.

Now as to what the park owns (or rather owned because all of my knowledge was based off of what the park had as of the 1996 purchase by Premier. Then again every subsequent change has included all holdings of the park, so i can't imagine that much has changed).

GLP was roughly 69 acres of developed amusement park. Nearly all of it in Bainbridge. The remainder was undeveloped land, parking and maintenance back of the house type stuff. I do believe that the total holdings of Funtime was in the neighborhood of 600 acres. And i've seen listings of SWO holdings at 80 acres, but it wasn't over 100. At any rate, it is clear that SWO didn't own much more than the parking lot and developed park.

At any rate, GLP owned (and i assume still does) the land from the Cuyahoga County/Geauga County line north of 43 and south of the railroad. They also owned a bit of land on the northern side of the R.R. in the general vicinity of the park. Finally the land north and east of SWO through to the campground and hotel was Funtime property. At the time of the sale SWO had GLP on three sides of their property line and private owners/43 on the south.

If one were to estimate that GLP's total land usage was around 100 acres, and the "wildlife" park was about 100 acres (probibly less), and the lake is definately 70 acres then you're talking at least 400 acres left over for the campground hotel and undeveloped land.

You mean GL is running out of space?!!! OH NO! ;-)

So how far north does the property extend? I am curious as to if it extends further north and west than the new Geauga Lake Rd. If it does, there is plenty of room for expansion. Problem is convincing Bainbridge to allow it.

Also, is there available land for an exit off of 422, and a new road to the park? I'll take a look at my Geauga and/or Portage County maps, and try to answer some of these questions myself, but any help would be nice.
