Well, that's why they started early. They weren't sure if it'll clear the ground. When they send the first car, and it breaks apart from hitting the ground in the turn, then they have plenty of time to re-engineer the ride to get it open by Opening Day 2007.

That reminded me of the KK show on Discovery. They were doing the clearance template tests and spent several hours wondering what to do about part of the catwalk railing on the top of the tophat that was too close to the train. After spending several hours trying to figure out what to do, they re-measured the template and found that it was several inches beyond the requirement. I couldn't help but shake my head.

What we've seen is also consistent with an Intamin hyper twister.

And an Intamin LIM launched coaster.

And an Intamin Giga coaster

And an Intamin coaster.

#2 is not necessarily different from an Aquatrax, and #4 is a given. #1 and #3 are out because it is pretty clear from the placing of supports that there is no way a hill taller than 200' would fit into the layout.

So you can tell from the 10 or 15 so supports that have been put up that there is NO WAY a 2-300 foot hill could be put in?

Can I get some of what you're drinking (or smoking)?

Yeah, I can make a pretty good guess that there will not be a hill over 200 feet. And no, you can't get what I'm drinking and smoking because I just buy and don't sell.

I wasnt aware that you could smoke lettuce?

How'd that thing managed to open at all is nothing short of a miracle. I bet elementery school students could have made a better template.....and I also bet it would have been right the first time.:)

You can smoke other green things, and even throw in some salt.

I think this pic might support the Aquatrax theory:

Look how short those supports are. Could this area eventually be filled with water, and be the "splash-down" part?

Edit: After looking at the pic again, I noticed a few footers around that area that might make a slash-down impossible, right there.

Jugga didn't want to buy any. He just wanted some. ;)

101 on Magnum and counting...

Not sure, but after the flop of DT, I'm thinking I read somewhere that CP was going to leave the theaming up to Disney. I dont see much theaming being done here.

my opinion.. opinion only.

Greg

I think after seeing the way they handle lighting and themeing, I would rather they did leave it to Disney.

They could landscape it really well. They are good at that.

DT is a nice ride, but the fact that the themeing is a majority of the cost of the ride isn't very assuring. It was a nice beginner ride, it was my first ride at all at the Point :) but isn't near the best thrill. What I like about TTD, or any other ride that I like, is not themeing but instead the ride itself. When I go, I want to experience that rush that coasters have to offer. Going 120mph in 3.8 seconds? I don't need any forewarning of that other than the trains coming down that massive hill ;) Besides, Disney doesn't have anything that can top Top Thrill, now do they?

my opinion.. opinion only.

Yep, this is merely opinion. One that we seem to have in common :)

Toptrhrilldragster4lyf

I totally agree, Disney cant touch Top Thrill, but they do have the theaming and keep up on the theaming. That is the ONLY thing I was commenting on was the theaming, actually, I should have been more specific, the upkeep of the theaming. DT had cool theaming when it first opened, but has been neglected over the years.

Greg

Yeah. I have heard that it was once something better, but due to whatever reason, they have let it go. I only went on it once, so I can't tell you that in-depth what could have been done better. If they were better able to keep with quality theming throughout the years, and were on to something, I would support them entirely. However, Cedar Point is Cedar Point, while Disney is Disney. They both specialize in something different. Can't we leave it that way?

Also, Disney has been known to make everything a show and that is how they choose to make their rides. Cedar Point, however, is going more towards the pure excitement of the actual ride, instead of excitement throughout the "queue", essentially, and the ride slightly less. I'm okay with that, really. If I want to experience that sort of thing, then I will find a way to get down to Florida. But 'til then, I'm perfectly fine with the rides we got here.

Look at MF. The turns going into the first tunnel and right after the speed hill are both low, and the train still clears the ground.

Yeah, the supports don't seem that low, in relation to those of other rides. If this is indeed what others have said, a low-to-the-ground coaster, then that would be why. It's supposed to seem way too low, that's part of the scariness/effect of the ride. They've gotta have some substance to it, don't they?

Aren't those roughly 10ft? Or are you talking about even shorter ones still? *** Edited 7/23/2006 3:32:22 AM UTC by topthrilldragster4lyf***

Why are we comparing CP to Disney?

I don't want to rant, but Disney isn't comparable to any other place in the world (CP included).
