A group of students went to Cedar Point for a field trip and on their way back the bus they were traveling on caught fire.

Let me be the first to say: That sucks.

I agree that really sucks. Just one more good reason why I take my kids down on the day before there trip and we spend the night. Plus that way I get to go to. ;)

First trip June 23rd

At least no injuries are known yet, but yes, that indeed does suck.

Grady, that's a great way to sneak in a trip for yourself. :)

I hope that no one was injured.

No it would only suck if you were going to CP not going away. *** Edited 6/9/2006 9:25:04 PM UTC by RKilbane04***

Grady I do the same thing sort of. My wife is a teacher and and get to sneak a trip in when her 8th grade class goes for their class trip. She hates CP and I need every excuse to get down there, I will take what I can get.

I was waiting for someone to bring this topic up. My cousin was on that bus....

David, my daughter is an 8th grader, did the same with my son last year, they like it because they can hang around with there friends but don't have to follow the school rules, checking in ect. Plus we go the day before and stay at Castaway Bay, hopefully we will have 2 or 3 MF rides in before they even get into the park, gotta love ERT.

I was waiting for someone to make a comment like this. You have GOT to be kidding me?

It sucks either way, man, people could have gotten hurt or worse and all you can think of is CP?

Yeah, heard about this on WWJ after work. Could have been a lot worse - glad it wasn't.

My guess is that I would have been the first to catch it if it really *was* sarcasm.

well, maybe Gilman or Ben would have caught it first but it doesn't really matter.

Trust me, even with what could have been such a horrific accident, students still tend to be thankful for it happening on the way home.

a little story...

In 10th grade, we had a band trip to Disney World in FL, from PA- 1000 miles away. We took 13 buses for the band (we were the largest school in PA). Luckily on the way down, nothing eventful happened to kick off the week long trip. However on the way back, it could not have been more disastourous...

We left to come back to PA from Epcot at 10pm, it took us until 4am to even get out of FL, approx 4 hours longer because of a 'minor' accident on the highway. We get breakfast 4 hours later than we were scheduled, most of the kids threw up after breakfast for some 'unknown' reason. thats right, 13 buses of puke. then somewhere a little further up I95, the door off of the back of a tractor trailer FELL off and struck one of the buses. It broke nearly every window on the drivers side of the bus. The tractor trailer never stopped. luckily the windows did not shatter over EVERYBODY, but some did get a shower of glass. Duct tape fixed the problem, nobody was hurt. Further down the road, a bus caught fire. Luckily this did not put us back too much more, because the bus company had a facility in NC that allowed that bus to jump on. Again, everybody was ok. Finally, just as we got into PA, about 50 miles from home on I70 going up over the mountain, somebody sprayed perfume on one of the girls buses and it caused another girl to have an asthma attack. We had to pull over for that. The 26 hour trip home was hell (should have been about 18 hours) but we (about 500 of us) were all VERY grateful it was on the way home, not on the way down which could have ruined the ENTIRE experience!

Hey man, why are you singling me out? ;)

Haha, that was my old middle school.

I heard about this on the local news earlier. I live in Beverly Hills, a mile down the street from that school.

Nope. The Gilman saw it as asshattery, e x i t.

I had one of the huge window panels fly off the bus on my 8th grade trip to Cedar Point that was sponsered by my town. Created this huge vacuum so all the trash (including everything from the bathroom) began to be sucked out the gaping hole where the panel broke out. Tampons were flying around, it wasn't pretty, but we didn't make the news, despite causing a pretty mess when the window shattered on Rte 2.

Flying tampons are never pretty. And always mean bad news, whatever the cause.

Mayor, Lighthouse Point

That's too bad; hopefully everyone was alright. Sounds like they got to see some "FireWater" of their own, if they didn't see Hot Summer Lights though... ;)

Sounds like a bad month for bus trips to the Point. Another bus heading there today crashed on the turnpike resulting in some injuries. Click here for the story.
