Cedar Point Summer Concert Series

Or, you could just not go to the park at all, I guess.

I mean, it's either your money, or the money of 1500 Jessica Simpson fans. If I was CP, I'd take the 1500 fans' money. Just thinking like a business, I guess.

I don't know what you listen to, but I listen to pretty much anything.

See I knew I would get some answer like that. I'm not saying I won't go to the park because I love going to Cedar Point. I'm just saying that I hope Cedar Point never does have Jessica Simpson there (which probably going to bhold ture, as long with other band). She brings the wrong kind of people, people who I can not stand, well most the people in MY OPINION.

You don't have to get all offensive. If you said you don't like Taking Back Sunday and hope Cedar Point never has them I wouldn't care because that is your opinion. I'm just saying I can't stand Jessica Simpson and that crappy music because I think it sounds snobbish to me. I already told you what I listen to. 89X (88.7) music Alternative rock not alternative (there is a difference),

I think they can make a lot of money. Also, if they had bands there it will take the wait in lines down at times. As people check out the bands, and people who don't like rides has something in the park to do. Then the park can gain more money because people will relize they have something else other then rides. People could also think of that they could see the band, and see some of Cedar Point's shows. Instead of spending their money in just one place like a hotel or something.

A concert series would probably be good for a park like Cedar. I'm from Florida and have had Cypress Garden season passes and they have a concert series. Crowds seem to be much better on concert dates. The season pass gets free entrance to concerts but $15 gets you a covered ,closer space to watch and they let you set up lawn chairs when you first get to the park for the uncovered seats. While it's mostly country stars..not just the old twangy ones either...they have had 50's and 60's groups(Beach Boys). Some 70's rock like Styx and even had Green Day and System of a Down(the weekend after Charlie Daniels in fact!).No riots or fights. So a lot of variety is possible within a "family park". It probably requires a lot more security but concession sells are probably much better and some who are drawn in for concerts might just like the park enough to get season passes.

The ballroom would suck for a concert because there are limited bathrooms (could you imagine the men's room floors?) and no air conditioning.

So unless CP would build an amphitheater, I don't see it happening.

Now if CP built a year-round indoor amusement park/video arcade out on route 250 then they could just build an arena to host shows. Then when the airport goes in at NASA - Plum Brook, Sandusky will become a true entertainment destination.

That would be cool. Have the Ohio State Vs. Michigan rivalry when they play.

Well, since OSU and UM don't play until after the park is closed for the season, that wouldn't matter anyway.

And you can't really see anything on the screen during the day anyway. They have horror movies playing all day during Halloweekends, but its not until after the sun is down that you can see it.

Yes, but Jugga those are BLACK AND WHITE movies. Outdated technology that you can't see unless it is completely dark. These games are in what they call colorvision and sometimes H-Dee, so they will show up in the light.

Also, and the tubing around the screen is entirely 4-sided "box" construction, so it isn't meant for football games anyway. The company that builds them uses only triangular construction for its "sports" variety.

Then why dim the lights for movies? They are presented in this new fangled color aren't they? Yet they show up on the projector much better once the lights are down. And this is a screen that is surrounded 360 by light. Yes the image would show up, but it would be far from H-Dee and nowhere near as visible as if it were night.

But you're missing the point, man. The structure has 4-rail construction, it can never play sports anyway!!!

JuggaLotus's avatar

But only two of those are actually rails. Notice its not tied to the outside supports just to the inside rails. So its still two rail construction.

Oh, and the image it displays is in 4-d.

first its HD not hdee (Its a awesome picture) and I they can try to get football games on it. I think they can upgrade their screen, to have a better picture and projecters, if they were really serious about it.

I go to the Silver Dol.... I mean Gameday Grille for football in the fall.

OK, I guess I have to explain that I was mocking people who talk out their asses on here.

I'm fully aware of all the technology

Good luck getting a projector that will even come close to being bright enough to show up on that screen in the middle of the day. You won't see anything on that screen until it starts to get dark.

Besides, putting the games up on a big screen would have a couple issues.

A) I'm sure ABC or ESPN or whichever channel they are broadcasting might have an issue with the game being broadcast on such a large screen to such a potentially large audience. I doubt they'd have a problem giving permission, but it is something to be considered.

B) If they broadcast the game on the Jumbo, what's the motivation for crowds to be drawn into GDG to watch? Standing on the midway you don't have food and beer passing you by and tempting you. CP doesn't want people not buying stuff. If they can suck you into GDG to watch the game and you buy at least one beer (or appetizer or whatever), thats one more than you would have bought on the midway.

If they set up Dragster style bleachers with a burger/beer stand under them, and a snack foods and maybe more beer down in front, it's all set. I'd sit there and watch a game :)

This quote from The Kids in the Hall is just for you, e x i t.

No. I'm not being sarcastic. This is just how I talk.

They just need to take out Wildcat and replace it with more shade, sitting area and a massive flat ride. The area is to hot and bright in the summer, it seems to only be good during the laser show. Well maybe they can focus on building a boardwalk off of Ocean Motion or something and have an amphitheatre with a MGM Fantasmic type show for thousands of people to pour into at night. Its more of a fantasy, not really a suggestion.

But it would be fun to have concerts there, I probably wouldn't be standing in the sun for any performers, but for those with an umbrella to block each others views, that would be great.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

LOL, thanks brotha :)

As long as they have beer im there.

The sun and hot won't bother me. Heck, I'm going to a concert Sunday the has 2 indoor stages and 1 outdoor stage with 18 bands and I'm going to be in some 92 degree, humid, hot sunny heat for quite some time.

Also, you got to think that if Cedar Point did have concerts that it will get hot if they had a bunch of people around. As well, espically if its a band that you don't sit down too, like the concerts I go to.

What are some other suggestions you guys might have?

I agree that a concert series would be cool - so would a pre-show concert stage at Hot summer nights; so would a lakefront stage with local marching bands / performance groups during the day and concerts during the night.

That said, the business is a little bit more functional oriented. Entertainment (even in more "entertainment" parks) serves a purpose. For a really good production, it takes a lot of money - so it has to be worth it, or have a functional reason in mind. It might be something for older folks, a reason for guests to stay an extra few hours (or extra day), or draw guests towards a certain area during a certain part of the day. Look at the 4 biggest venues at CP - Good Time, Aquatic, Palace, Centennial. It's pretty easy to see who is going to those. Families & Grandparents. The Red Garter might be more in line for what a coaster fan likes, but is also one of the smallest spaces. Entertainment at CP is kind of like putting their eggs in different baskets, if even so the parents/grandparents have something to do.

No doubt a night rock concert would be great, but it really has to serve a purpse - Now, if they offered a separate ticket for a headline concert, then had a small group of rides open from 12-2am for those guests, that might be something - Nothing else really exists like that. I can't think of anything more fun on a Saturday night!

that would be fun, and they should have contests or something that you can ride the rides with the bands. Also, the big screen at night, if they have it by that area. They can use the laser lights and stuff.
