Cedar Point's Next Coaster: Do You Think It Would More Likely Be An Intamin Or a B&M?

Yeah, TwistedWicker77! ... that's exactly what I am envisioning!

\Why not something from the S&S coaster catalog? While not large, the Free Fly and El Loco models look pretty fun. The Free Fly could be a nice new family coaster while El Loco looks a little more intense for the slightly older crowds. On top of that they still have the 4D design which is severely underused and not found in the immediate area.

I don't want a "model" ride. They're too generic. I want a coaster that is unique to Cedar Point only.

I would much prefer a B&M but there's one problem I have with a B&M coaster coming to the point. The problem is cloning. B&M clones their coasters all the time... The reason all the Intamins have been amazing is because there's really no others alike.

You sound like an enthusiast circa 2000 (whiney kind), and I don't think you fundamentally understand the business. B&M and any other manufacturer builds what a park asks them to build. It's not any more complicated than that. Furthermore, Intamin most certainly does build variations on the same thing, just like B&M does. Maverick certainly has a lot in common with rides like Cheetah Hunt, Fahrenheit and an overseas ride whose name escapes me at the moment.

You see what you want to see. Manufacturers build what the park asks for, copied or not.

So in other words, its not the manufacturer who is "copying" but it's the other amusement parks who are.

Agreed...besides...does the ride do what it's intended to do? Draw crowds and attendance, provide thrills depending on the rides format, and bring a new attraction to the parks list. If you answered yes to all, that's the point of a new ride. Enthusiasts are a moderately sized group of attendance at the park, and very difficult to please. Hell, I had an enthusiast complain to me that we didn't have a train ready to go as soon as the other dropped off the lift and the block cleared...Even though the train can't dispatch until halfway through the loop. It's a hard group to always make happy, it really is.

Just be happy with whatever ride they decide to bring to the park. With each ride they try to target an audience and thrill group and possibly a record or two. Windseeker was targeted towards people with a fear of heights/open environment/ect. Most enthusiasts don't think it's that thrilling because we're used to several seconds of airtime on each hill, several incredible inversions, and something we want to marathon all day.

You may say B&M cookie cuts it's coasters...Well...does the format work and do as above? Yes...If you're complaining about that I don't know why it's bothering you. I mean, it's a new coaster, we haven't had once since Maverick, we should be happy, and it should be incredible considering we've waited this long. They don't even have to build us another coaster, they could expand childrens areas, or soak city, or another flat ride, or expand other entertainment or enthusiast avenues. Be happy that we MAY get one.

Im hoping that "MAY get one" will turn into a will get one :D

Oh I totally agree...But if we don't I'm not about to get all butt hurt about it...it's a ride...it's not like the didn't open a humanitarian society that feeds every homeless person and provides free healthcare to everyone and just drops the ball...It's one new ride one season the parks open haha

If we were getting a coaster for 2013, about when do you think we will begin seeing orange stakes and cleared land?

Based on past projects, sometime between November 2011 and November 2012.

Brandon

Wow really? November 2011..? So we could actually see signs on opening day, if there is going to be something big that is.

It depends on the scope of the project, among other things.

When Maverick was constructed, footer work was underway during the 2006 season (recall that Maverick opened in 2007). On the other hand, work on Raptor didn't begin until after closing day 1993 (Raptor opened in 1994). Though the off season was longer back then.

Last yr I have seen orange markings on the lights and trees and also red markings around the Antique Cars in the back. If so the A. Cars will be gone and the New Ride for 2013 will sit in that area.

Lights and trees where?

Jeez oh peet! You act like an 8yr. old on Christmas morning. Except this gift doesn't get opened untill May of 2013, if CP even gets a coaster.

I'd be excited to even see the live e get extensively changed this year and some impressive new things. Like the end of the night show getting highly revamped would make my day. American Portrait just disappointed me so much. With Ouimet from Disney, that park always have spectacular end of the night show in their park. If that could get brought to the park I'd be very impressed. A few small fireworks, lights, a Windows Movie Maker slideshow, and God Bless America for the 2nd time of the day...it can just go away haha...I will even say Kings Island's end of the day shows are much more impressive than CP

It's most likely nothing. Could be for future maintenance. If it was orange, it has something to do with telecommunication, alarm or signal lines, cables, or conduit and red is associated with various electrical lines. Opening day will yield more evidence.......IF there is any. And if not, then maybe we'll see something later in the season.

The location of any one or several markings doesn't necessarily indicate where an attraction is going to be built, if we're to assume, as Adam points out, that those markings are actually for a new attraction. Utility markings are only a small clue that has to be combined with a myriad of other information in order to guess where the Next Big Thing is going.

The point will be getting a B&M for 2013. This will be placed near the front of the park in some of the space left over from the demon drop removal. The merchandise warehouse is being moved to another location and possibly a piece of the employee parking area may come into play as well. Rumor is that this coaster will wrap around space spiral in some way, but nothing confirmed. My guess for style of coaster is like the new winged coaster at Six Flags Great America in Chicago, or possibly some new concept not yet seen from B&M.

CP will be getting a golden rocket car that shoots passengers to an undisclosed location on the dark side of the moon.

The station will be located halfway between the Power Tower and the Corkscrew.

While I did not ACTUALLY see an orange flag when I was there, I did see a guy wearing an orange shirt.... he looked legit.
