Chippewa Lake Park

For those of you die hard's out there or for those who can just remember this old defunct park down in Medina County, it is open on the weekends weather permitting, to take one last stroll thru before they tear it down. The Big Dipper Coaster is still standing and is a pretty neat site to see. Plus many of the other rides are still standing, overgrown with trees and brush but still a site to see. This is not going to be open for much longer so if you have a chance take a drive out there to see this classic park. Word also has it that they are going to remove the Ferris wheel and old bug ride, refurbish it and make them operate once again across the lake at one of the county parks. Not sure how true this is but that is the story being told.

The park is only open on the second Saturday of each month. They have a couple ideas of what to do with the ferris wheel and bug. The wheel definatly will only be decoration, however they are talking about the bug running again. I do recomend taking a ride over there and taking a looksie.

For those that haven't seen the pics of the park, here is the link:

How does this have anything to do with Cedar Point?

I drove by the park last week and they have changed the sign out front to change it to every 2nd Saturday. I also live right down the street from the old park. I don't want anyone making the drive down here and finding the park not opened up. Not only can yo uwalk around the park but you can talk to people that live around the park. There are some really great stories if you want to listen.

I know this dosn't have anything to do with cp but, it was a topic and I know a little bit about it and I thought I would add some insight. Some people on here night find it interesting.

A little side note. The movie they filmed there is in post-production and they have added a new section of " behind the scenes". They have just added a webcast there and are plnning to add a new one every week until the film comes out.http://www.shadowcastpictures.com/CFTS/CFTS_home.html

I live near by, and wouldn't mind looking around, but only if there's some assurance that I can get in without trespassing.

Jeff, go on the weekends weather permitting. It is open the second Saturday of each month according to ffej man. It was open at one time every weekend. I will find out more. They have marked patsh for you to walk on.

Jeff, every second Saturday is really a great time. The people that do tours and hang around used to work there and one is the caretaker of the land. They have really great stories. You can go on a guided tour or you can take a walk around to look at what was. They are a little tighter on security when the gates are closed and I see troopers drive by all the time , so I recomend going when the gates are open.

Oh my gosh, that is amazing! I wish I had known about this place before my CP trip or I would definitely have tried to visit.... I just want to say thanks for sharing. I loved the pictures, it's got a sort of serene feeling of nostalgia, it'd be a pretty powerful place to see... Wow. It makes me really sad that they're tearing it down. :( But I guess that's how things go...

Millennium Force at sunset is a beautiful sight.

I think it's hilarious that a post that has nothing to do with Cedar Point, and doesnt even mention CP hasnt been closed. Yet, Jeff closed my post which related to CP and posted a reply on this.

I mean, I like this topic and I think it's a neat find. I just dont understand why this happens so much, and why it's tolerated. If you like a post even though it breaks a rule you'll give it a pass. Whatever...

Chippewa Lake was a nice park and it was sad to see to fall into the shape it was in. The Coaster was hardly any major thrill but a lot of fun. The had a Bug that was pretty cool as well. They had a rocket ship ride that glided over the water. Their ferris wheel was supposendly the fastest in the state. I don't know if that was true but it did seen faster than normal. One thing that always puzzled me is that they had a Wild Mouse. Puzzling to me is I never remember seeing it. I was 13 years old my last visit but I don't remember seeing it. I am sure I would have gone on it. They was in 1978 the parks last season.

Cedar Point and Chippewa Lake do have a connection. From 1959 to 1964 Jungle Larry had his show here before coming to CP.

Also CP's huge comeback in the 1960s and rise to megaparks did in a lot of northern Ohio parks.

I do remember in 1978 to not really think much of the park. It was old and a lot of rides were closed and broken and I was like most kids and wanted to ride the latest rides. It was not until I joined ACE about a decade later and realized what we had lost and the value of the old time parks

I love this post,it makes me think of crazy old stuff that i love.I'm not that old "39" I want to go!!

I'm not interested in he-said she-said about when you can go there. That's not any kind of assurance to me. I'd like some official source.

I never said it was personal. It would actually make sense if it was. You're just not consistant with the rules on here, and a few of us have noticed it. I'll give you credit for trying to be clever/witty, and pull the reverse witch hunt angle. I'm just telling you what people are saying.
