Coaster Rider Statistics 2005

Chuck Wagon's avatar

I enjoy looking at the numbers posted over on cedarpoint.com regarding the amount of rides given the previous year for each coaster. Here are the numbers for '05 all together:

195,113 Jr. Gemini
256,781 Woodstock Express
553,069 Wildcat
765,320 Blue Streak
839,811 Mine Ride
888,188 Mean Streak
994,029 Corkscrew
1,118,647 Disaster Transport
1,139,186 Mantis
1,414,521 Millennium Force
1,639,672 Iron Dragon
1,717,112 Gemini
1,838,824 Raptor
1,888,539 Magnum

Wicked Twister not listed
Dragster not listed

I'm sad to say that Gemini most likely will never again grace the top of the list without 6 train operation.

Question #1: What do you think managment does with these numbers each year? (obviously needing to take into consideration uptime, location, etc.)

Question #2: Which coaster surprises you as to the amount of rides?

I think Blue Streak should be higher than the 3 above it, but then again, it's out of the way and only has 2 trains...

^That's why the topic is called "Coaster" Rider Statistics.

I believe TTD is between Corkscrew and DT. That's really sad.

Magnum #1. :)

Why are Wicked Twister and Dragster not listed?

Very Surprised about Wildcat and Bluestreak being beaten by CCMR.

Disaster Transport is actually pretty popular.

Go figure. :)

Interesting. Id be curious to see how MF's numbers compare to previous years, especially like 2000 and 2001.

Yeah, but Mill. Force had really slow departure times last year.

MaRiJuAnA

Right, which is exactly why I would like to see the numbers, to see just how much slower it was.

Why is Iron Dragon #4?:( It stinks!

Let's Get Weird.

It appeals to a lot greater audience, and has a short interval for good capacity.

I was a little suprised about Mantis. But it is 4 wide.

101 on Magnum and counting...

4 seats across makes no difference. Raptor and Mantis both have a total of 36 seats and that's about same as every other coaster. TTD holds the least, but that was the whole plan behind the double station.

Here's to getting Magnum, Raptor and Gemini back over 2,000,000.... :)

Wildcat doesn't surprise me. It won't operate in even a slight drizzle, so it probably wasn't open as much as CCMR.

Not sure on Bluestreak though. Could also be weather related.

DBCP,

Less riders = a less of a wait. Why do you want more riders?

Less riders means lower efficiency/capacity. Millennium Force gets 4-500,000 less riders than Magnum or Raptor each season. But its line is always longer. I'm with DBCP - I'd like to see Magnum and Raptor back over 2 million. Last year was not a great year for either one. But with the reduced hours, it's going to be a nice accomplishment to get back to 2 million this season.

And as for MF's numbers - last season was the lowest total yet. 2004 saw 1,525,402 and 2003 was 1,786,085. To my knowledge, 2001 was the highest year with somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.9 million. That is quite an accomplishment on that ride. This year's crew seems to be the best in several years though.

Are data from prior years available anywhere? I'm interested in the trends.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Top Thrill Dragster is sinking...

I don't think they're really out there in compiled form, but I've kept track of the top 10 or so rides (the ones that are actually posted on the web site) since '03. As you can see, there is quite a large drop from '03 to '05, but if you take out Corkscrew (seatbelts) and the train (which has been running only one train until about July the last two summers, and Gemini (which went from running 6 trains to stacking 4), that accounts for most of it.

2003 2004 2005
Magnum 1,967,796 2,080,903 1,888,539
Raptor 2,117,551 2,089,853 1,838,824
Sky Ride 1,634,680 1,605,543 1,809,259
Gemini 2,002,043 1,729,787 1,717,112
Iron Dragon 1,720,054 1,685,520 1,639,672
CPLERR 2,226,579 1,589,150 1,487,965
Millennium Force 1,786,085 1,525,402 1,414,521
Mantis 1,190,660 1,150,304 1,139,186
Disaster Transport 1,064,555 1,033,261 1,118,647
Corkscrew 1,303,542 1,281,067 994,029

Total 17,013,545 15,770,790 15,047,754

Not sure if I can do anything about this formatting... *** Edited 5/31/2006 12:53:01 AM UTC by MDOmnis***
