Columbus Day

Does anyone think the traffic situation will be that bad again this year, if I was going to go for 3 days during Halloweekends, it would be on Columbus Day weekend.

Stay on Point at a CP property, traffic won't be an issue if you do that.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I purposely scheduled my October vacation so I am gone Columbus Day weekend. This way, I have no chance of being tempted into going that weekend and having a repeat of last year.

I would avoid that weekend if possible. That weekend is the most crowded weekend of the entire year. But weather can also impact how crowded it will be. If it's nice like last year, it will be insanely crowded.

If its a nice weekend, the park will be slammed again. While they have tried to address traffic flow by using 3 lanes leaving the park, you still have a bottleneck at the traffic light where there are only 2 lanes.

Maybe I will go for the three days- arrive Friday, Leave Sunday, but we will leave earlier on Sunday before everyone is trying to leave at the same time. Or, I just might not go that weekend, Fastlane will probably be expensive, and the Fastlane lines will probably be long. Mean Streak will probably have a line.

There are three lanes at the traffic light. Two through lanes and a right turn lane. If those going west on routes 6, 2, and the Ohio Turnpike and south on 4 were smart they would turn right at the light onto First St. A lot less traffic and it moves faster.

Technically correct, but the 3 lanes on the causeway are merged down to 2 lanes at the traffic light causing a bottleneck at the light. Few people turn right so most everyone continues straight on the 2 lanes.

What about on closing day, is the park generally busier than normal on closing day/ closing day weekend?

The park is open late the Sunday before Columbus Day, do Ohio schools have off Monday?
I'll be staying on point so the traffic doesn't matter to me

I don't ever remember getting Columbus Day off when I was in school. But I graduated 10 years ago, that may have changed. I thought Columbus Day wasn't that big of a holiday. Many workplaces don't get that day off.

Then there's the human traffic...

^^last year as a senior in high school I took dual enrollment, high school and college classes. Neither school had off the Monday after Columbus Day. That was such a long day after being at cedar point for nearly 12 hours the day before

Columbus Day is always actually on Monday.

I was not present last year for Columbus Day, but since I am a frequent visitor of the park, I feel as if drastic measure can be taken (in conjunction with police departments) to assure issues do not arise.

They are definitely on the right track with the three lane exit procedure on the causeway. When the lanes merge, however, there will be bottlenecks. How is this fixed?
Direct all traffic out of CP in three lanes all the way to the light on Rt. 6, and have police manually managing traffic without the lights. This will still cause issues because RT. 6 is only one lane, so infrastructure upgrade is much needed.

As for the parking lot issue, as long as CP keeps a constant lane of traffic flowing out of that lot (the third lane) then they should be solid.

Close Rye Beach Rd. from being used as an exit. Cars cannot make left turns out of there on to Rt. 6 with a massive amount of traffic coming from the causeway.

Have police directing traffic turning on to Rt. 2 and US 250.

Just my two cents.

People turning left to get to Rye Beach Rd. should just use the chausee exit and they can have someone direct traffic on Rt. 6 if needed on very busy days. Not allowing people to leave the area by using Rye Beach Rd at all would be pointless. There are hotels and restaurants over there and if you came from east of Sandusky there's no point in driving through Sandusky to get to Rt 2 if you can just get on at the edge of Huron.
