Down?

Kyurthich's avatar

I myself heard today that it was due to a stretched lift cable.. therefore causing too much slack. They supposedly have on on order from Intamin.

man, I am going on TUE and WED and I hope that it is back up and running on WED.

Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.

Since Monty said it would be down Tues and Wed, I'm seriously doubting it. I'm heading up for Sat and Sun and I'm hoping it'll be up by then too.

Best RollerCoaster in the World = Millenium Force

i woudnt count on it being up and running till prolly the end of the week

"Vice-President of Maintenance/NEW CONSTRUCTION"

Is that a position or is he trying to take some credit? ;)

6 years and the gear box goes out? Thats reliable? beyond 10 years and I would not complain.

If the ride is out of Intamins hands, it was still designed and built by Intamin. Cedar Point did not design it, and since they did not, I cannot blame them for the problem. It's Intamin's fault, Cedar Point has to have it fixed due to poor safety engineering on Intamins end.

So, by that logic, I guess it's Honda's fault that I just had to put new tires on my car? I mean, if they would have designed my car better, my tires would have lasted more than 2 years and there would still be some tread left on them. Does that mean my car was poorly engineered? No - I chose to drive my car as much as I did (I have put 34,000 miles on it already :-D) and wore the tread down. Not to mention driving in the show and crap from last winter. Much like CP ran MF over and over and over again day in and day out for the past 5 seasons and the beginning of this one.

Gears wear out, it happens when you have metal pushing on other metal. Transmissions and clutches go out on cars all the time, usually once a car has hit so many miles, there's more of a risk of it going. I'm sure MF has logged its share of miles in the last 6 years.

It has probably happened on more than one of the coasters at CP in recent years. Oh, and remember when Magnum's chain broke a few years back? Damn Arrow and their unsafe and cheap chain engineering.

Maybe tires aren't the best example, but I just replaced them so its fresh in my mind.

The girl in front of Raptor today (yes, both my girlfriend's and my personal favorite ride were closed today :-| ) telling everyone "its down for mechanical reasons..." told me that MF is waiting on a part coming from Switzerland, and would be down this week. Take it or leave it...

Hey guys just got back from CP! MF was down from 6pm Saturday!! How disappointing cuz I rode it for the first time on Saturday am and wanted to do it at least three more times! The girl at the gate told my friend and I that its down for the week! the more suprising thing was that raptor was shut down yesterday as well as magnum!!!

Distance to Get there = 500 miles
Waiting in line for seasons pass = 20 minutes
Being reunited with Wicked twister = Priceless!!!

Wow - this is a REAL bad week for the point

Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.

This is one thing that kinda get to me about the point - if they know that it is going to be down until a specific date(i.e. they are waiting for a part and it won't get there until...), why not post that on their website so that we can all plan accordingly? I mean I for one would not alter a trip because of this, but I am sure that there are people who would seriously consider it.

Hey, at least when a chain breaks on a coaster they can get a new one locally...

Twisterfreak I love your signature - Wicked Twister - what a great ride. Its a pitty that most of my friends dont like it.

Gears wear out yes. But in 6 years? MF simply does not run that hard, I had an Escort with over 250K on it and it still had the same Transmission and Clutch from the day it left the factory. There is a man in Texas in the Chevy Silverado 200K club with a million miles on his truck and the whole thing is OEM out of the factory.

Millenium Force runs a steady pace in a steady environment. I'm sure the crew at Cedar Point in charge of maintenance takes proper care of MF and all her workings.

If the issue is the PTO shaft on it's lift system, this is very upsetting to me. A PTO shaft is simply that, a shaft. A piece of steel sized accordingly, mostly round with connections on either end. It's designed to transfer power from a source to a device.

Agriculture is a major market for PTO shafts and unless somone gets their arm caught in it (it happens a lot because it is usually exposed) the shaft usually out lasts the life of the equipment. Agriculture is usually a tougher harsher environment than what MF runs in.

MF is broke and there is no one to blame but Intamin. Gears break and clash, but under proper care, they can run longer than you think.

Thanks!!! Out of all the rides I've done Twister is my favorite. I haven't ridden ttd yet but twister has everything a coaster enthusiast needs....twists....launched......forwards......And backwards who needs anything more!!!

How can you blame Intamin, when you have no idea what the problem is?

Brandon

Who else is there to blame? Cedar Point? Guests of CP?

Regular wear and tear? Random chance? Maybe a bird few into the wrong place at the wrong time and screwed something up, for all we know. It may be CP's fault due to something maintenance-related, it may be Intamin's fault somehow, it may be neither. The point is that we simply don't know, it could be any number of things and speculating on it this much isn't going to get us anywhere.

That's the point. It could very well have been a maintenance oversight or some sort of chaotic failure.

Its easy to point the finger at Intamin, but without knowing what actually went wrong, its ludacris to place blame anywhere.

Who's to say they received proper care? Not bashing the CP Maintenance dept., just playing devils advocate. Maybe they've received substandard care and thats why they've worn out early.
