Free WiFi at the point next year!

Just read the Cedar Fair report where it announces among other things, that WiFi will be coming to its five largest properties. I would guess CP is in that category.

I'm sure it will be top notch service. ;-)

The Wi-fi at Kings Island worked very well when I was there.

Yay I wont receive my ¨You have used 90% of your available data¨ text messages when I'm at the point now

I'm generally not a WiFi person, but this is intriguing because I could potentially leave my mobile in the car and use my smartwatch via the WiFi. The downside of doing that is not having a camera.

Realistically, I see a tiered system. Free WiFi maybe just fast enough for email or simple web pages, and a premium for anything actually usable.

Where did you find that article about other new things to come? I'm excited about the Wi-Fi coming to Cedar Point. Hopefully they add a Verizon tower so I can get better reception.

^ It's mentioned in the press release in the other thread from Walt this morning.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the WiFi at Kings Island worked. CP is probably a bit of a different animal with more area, less symmetry, and probably less infrastructure in place, but if it works as well as KI's did, it would be great!

If I did that, my phone would be dead before I could finish the movie. Hopefully I can get a new phone by next year. I want to get a portable charger, but that would just be more crap to carry around with me.

I've got a Nexus 6, it does the job pretty well in terms of daily battery life. I may get a portable charger, but I usually end up just hanging out in line with whoever I'm with, but I'd be curious to see how the Wifi will work. As someone mentioned, the KIWifi did pretty well

I had a Nexus 6 this year (Just got Nexus 6P though) and thought battery life was OK. As a T-Mobile customer, I can do everything via WiFi, so with this park-wide WiFi I could put my phone in Airplane mode and then turn on WiFi, which would save much battery.

The marshmallow update REALLY helped battery life, I won't lie there.

I may do the SmartWatch deal and just use it for the day and leave my phone. I've been wanting to show Tony a Tweetup that way :)

Yes, Doze does a great job, but it only activates when the phone is stationary, and at CP, that doesn't happen.

It was nice at Universal Orlando Resort how they have free lockers outside most of the bigger rides because I could bring a drawstring bag and a portable charger into the park and leave my phone charging in the locker while I was on the ride. I should mention that I was at this park by myself, so my phone was useful while queuing. I was not trying to be anti-social.

You can set apps to have battery optimization now too (or at least I just discovered it) and I've noticed DRASTIC increases.

I have an iPhone 6S+ - what's a dead battery?

Thabto's avatar

Do the iPhone 6S+ batteries last a long time?

Yep. Even the iPhone 6 has a really good battery compared to most phones. My friends' would die when I would have 40 or 50% left. They mostly have Galaxys or Notes.

To be fair, iPhones haven't had respectable battery life since the 3GS, but it also helps that the 6/6+ are bigger.

I just got a Nexus 5X, and I'm totally surprised at how much it doesn't suck. Never been an Android fan. Great battery life. The OS still isn't good as Windows Phone, but that's the trade-off for a richer app ecosystem.

Putting WiFi into a park is not an inexpensive endeavor. I've had a little exposure to that process, and it's harder than you would think. If the pipe is big enough, this will really help Cedar Point, especially with the weak and inconsistent cellular service there.
