Gemini running with one side backwards?

Viper never ran backwards, however, Colossus has.

That would be the best! Attendence on the the ride would be up up up! Also that area would see more people and help keep the fork in the trail if you will moving.

MagnumFan, I know I'm not the biggest Gemini fan, but isn't the attendance all ready high? It gives the most rides every year, because of the six trains.

Gemini Hand Smacker, I thought your idea was funny. I also believe that it would work with the understanding and familiarity that some of you have about coasters.

The idea that Dave (one of the smartest people I've ever "met" on the internet) had about launching a rider backward could easily be fixed. More bright orange seatbelts. I smell a five point orange seatbelt coming... That is, if this "idea" were "real."

Actually Viper WAS run backwards!

I'm sorry, but you are WRONG. It would be waaay too much work to reconfigure the Arrow looping trains even if they wanted to run Viper backwards. Besides, SFMM, like CP, would NEVER risk the liability of running a ride like Viper in a configuration that it was not designed to accommodate.

Great American Scream Machine @ SFGAdv was run backwards
Nope, you must be thinking of Lightnin' Loops, which was actually engineered to run backwards.

Tell me if i AM wrong but wasnt Racer originally run both forward cuz I thought someone said that on another coaster forum, but to contribute to the conversation I would love to see them do it for threee reasons 1)If you didn't like it you can rie the other side 2) Maybe they will keep both sides open then 3) Adds excitment to the ride with a little change
You're right! The PKI Racer and its siblings, Rebel Yell (PKD) and Thunder Road (PCWi), all originally raced with forward-facing trains only.

*TRIVIA ALERT*
Which of these three woodies DID NOT open with three-bench PTC rolling stock?

Nope, I am thinking of GASM. GASM ran backwards for like a season and a half in the early 90's. Back me up, someone. :)
Im basing this on fact because on the the maintenance people at the Adventuredome worked at SFMM for years. We often talk about changes the park makes to rides. This was something HE brought up, and I was like whoa sounds impossible casue it was arrow. He told me it wasn't easy, BUT IT WAS DONE.

If I recall correctly,PKI's Racer turned one side backward for the '82 season for a limited time for its 10th anniversary. But due to popular demand,it remained that way. Too bad others didn't follow through as well. I remember American Eagle at SFGAm doing the same for its 10th. It ran great backward but didn't stay that way.

Okay, whatever, they may have tried to reverse the trains on Viper, but they NEVER did it for regular operation. N-E-V-E-R.

I've allowed time for "back up" Brett. :)

GASM at SFGAd never ran backwards for regular operation either. If Six Flags had ever turned around the trains on any of their three Arrow mega-loopers (which they have NEVER done) I'm sure that we would have seen backwards operation on more than a couple other Arrow loopers by now.

Six Flags Great Adventure ran the right track track of Rolling Thunder backwards for one season.. and they advertised it as Rednuht Gnillor (pronounce Rednooth Nillor). I rode PKI's dual coaster backwards last year and hated it. It was one of the two roller coasters I ever thought I would physically be killed while riding. (The other being Six Flags Great Adventure's Viper. I told my sister if I ever felt like riding that again to put me in a dryer, turn it on and shove it down the steps.. I'd be less bruised.)
I saw Gemini going backwards this year, and I'm pretty sure I'll see the same thing this Sunday. At least I hope so.

If you had a friend who was a tightrope walker and one day you are walking down the street with him and he suddenly tripped & fell, that would be completely unacceptable.

Gemini Hand Smacker ... I'm with ya. ::firing up the back-hoe:: Let's rock n' roll... when are we gonna go???

::grin::

Duane... are you for real!?!?! I don't believe you!!! I have NEVER seen it run backwards and I have been there seven times this year.

I think he's referring to the rollback

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

WHat about this.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a new train(s) that were designed to run backwards?

The one problem with running backwards I can see is what do they do when they only have enough people for one side to run (which is fairly often at times)?
