Getaway Guides

Has anybody received a getaway guide yet? Every year I fill out the form early, and usually by now, I've gotten mine, but so far, I have not.

Sorry to bring this up, but has anyone received their Getaway Guide yet?

2008 visits = 38, 2009 = 19, 2010 = 11, 2011 = 14, 2012 = 10, 2013 = 14, 2014 = 14, 2015= 13, 2016 = 11, 2017 = 5, 2018 = 3

I love how we obsess over theme park promotional literature (still awaiting mine down here in Florida).

In all seriousness, however, these are probably gone for good. With the move to social media and digital marketing platforms through various means, print and mail brochures are really a waste of money. All a person has to do to connect to CedarPoint is visit their website or like them on Facebook- there's a whole lot more more information and planning tools than what the Getaway Guides provide (though I still have them dating back to the late nineties)

I've said this before, but the last few years the Getaway Guides have been a complete shadow of their former selves. Last time I got one it was more or less just the coupons with probably less info about the park than you'd get from a brochure from one of the turnpike service plazas.

I don't remember what year it was that they went away from the huge, thick versions with the extended advertising section in the back for other local motels and such, but that was the beginning of the end I'd say.

The beginning of the end started along time ago with the Internet. I just think the park was slow to realize it.

I have a Getaway Guide for every year dating back to 1994, although I confess I haven't even put in a request for one for this year yet. They were an incredible resource back in the day, but Jeff is right. Over the years they have become less impressive--much smaller with much less information. I still enjoy going through the earlier ones. So much has changed. Even with the internet so readily available, I miss the hard copy with all of the information and great pics.

There's just something appealing about physical, magazine glossy photos that even with a high-end monitor isn't quite the same on the internet. Granted, the Getaway Guide was never exactly glossy, but the idea is the same.

Call me old fashioned, but I'll still take a physical tourbook or guidebook over internet-only info or apps given the opportunity.

I recently read an article about how many retail companies are expanding their print catalogs, both size and distribution. They drive sales, especially online.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Got mine today. No coupons but alot of interesting news about this season including new stuff for Halloweekends including 1,000 lit jack o'laterns for kids. (I included some of the news in that forum).

BTW, interesting to read that a new (6th) indoor haunted house will be added this year, therefore I don't see any from last year being replaced, yipee!

I also got mine yesterday and was disappointed in the lack of coupons. I've gotten some good deals on resort stays in the past... I remember "the old days" of the full magazine style Getaway Guide. I was always so excited to get it. I remember reading all about the new attractions and carefully tearing out the new park map in the middle. I love the internet, but there was something special about getting that guide in the mail.

That's funny, I love the Internet too.
