Haunted Places at Cedar Point

After browsing a couple of web sites, namely ForgottenOhio.com , I've noticed that Cedar Point does have quite its share of hauntings. Most people do seem to know about the haunted horse on the Frontier Carousel, and most people are pretty darn sure that Breakers is haunted, but evidently, there are a bunch more hauntings that people don't know about.

For those who don't know, as quoted from ForgottenOhio.com:

About the Carousel Horse:

Cedar Point, America's greatest amusement park, has a haunted carousel horse. "Military Horse" is sometimes ridden by a spectral woman, either the wife of Daniel Muller, who carved the horse, or a woman who fell in love with it on her honeymoon. The horse, it's said, cannot be photographed without some mishap.

About Hotel Breakers:

But that's not the only haunting at America's Roller Coast. There is the old Hotel Breakers, where seasonal employees are sometimes housed. Go left at the top of the steps on the top floor and walk out to the balcony facing the lake and you'll feel yourself being pulled over--if you're a girl. The story goes that a couple at the hotel knew they were going to be separated and made a suicide pact, then jumped off the balcony here. The guy fell to his death but the woman held onto the railing and pulled herself back up, which is pretty much typical. His ghost tries to pull girls over the edge into eternity with him, so be careful. Another part of the old hotel was the site of a suicide; a girl killed herself in the shower. Residents sometimes hear crying and see their shower turned on and off by itself.

Then there's the other hauntings. I didn't know that ghostly dancers and spectral music had been reported in the CP ballroom. That'll be something to watch for for whoever has to go up there. I myself have seen a couple of weird happenings in and around the park. I've seen the previously reported jumping chairs in many of the theaters, felt the paranormal "cold chill" in the main arcade (Or it may have been the A/C. With the ballroom on top, however, I dunno...), and I've heard the infamous "marble sound" on the top floor of Hotel Breakers. Just for the record, does Breakers even have an attic? And for those who don't know, the "marble sound" has been reported in many multi-story haunted buildings. It sounds like a couple hundred million marbles being dropped on the floor above and then rolling across the floor.

So I was wondering, are there any other "official" hauntings at the Point, and what other paranormal things has everyone seen?

Actually, the ballroom haunting has been posted before. I have a friend who worked at CP in the late 80's and was aware of the ballroom ghosts and another one, a young girl, that haunted the Cedars dorms. He experienced the carousel ghost first hand.

Mary is the ghost referred to with the "suicide girl". She isn't a bad ghost though. I understand she is non-threatening.
Does anyone have anything else on the casousel horse, like which one, I havent heard anything about that one.

It would be cool to try and get a digital picture when I get the the point at the end of the month.

I spent a couple summers working 3rd shift landscaping. That meant I traveled all over the park in the middle of the night. Sometimes the only light around was that from my flashlight.

I never saw anything remotely strange or unusual (other than the occasional inebriated seasonal employee :) ). There's no such thing as ghosts.

Thanks LG.

Interesting...

I took two pictures of the horse, this year and last year, and did not have any problems with the picture. Unless you consider red-eye a problem. Picture 1 and Picture 2.

If you really want to know more about the horse, during Halloweekends CP puts up a haunted exhibit about it. They have the three different stories of what happened and have a little building where you can view it. (Apparently a ghost of a woman jumps out at you while viewing the horse, but she was on break when we saw it).

Well, guess that was proven to be wrong, as Lord Gonchar has shown a photo of it and it looks perfectly normal to me.
Mishap doesn't always need apply to the picture itself you know...said by someone who has had a few paranormal experiences himself...

So that explains those odd carousel dreams... ;)

Damn horse!

Hold up, the ghosts of Ohio article said that when they moved the carousel they didn't take only one( the 'haunted one'). And then it said that they made a fiberglass replica of it, but the original is still at Cedar Point. Why did they not take that one horse, but all the other ones? Are you guys trying to tell me Cedar Fair believes the ghost story and decided to keep this lady happy by leaving her horse there? That just doesn't seem right.
Ya, why wouldn't they? I mean almost every theatre has a ghost. I mean at BGSU's theatre, they save a seat for the ghost at every performance. It is kind of cool. Our Junior High has a ghost named Charlotte, and she does some wierd things as well. I think its kind of cool that CP has some ghosts :)

I worked 3rd shift at CP in the late 80's and personally witnessed the "Haunted Carosel" in action. As Walt said, nights at the Point are very dark esecially the trail and Frontiertown. The "Haunted Carosel" was where Undertaker U now stands before it was shipped to Dorney. Well, on some nights, it would move by itself. Not like it was running with music and lights, just slowly rotate enough to notice when your flashlight shone upon it. The really freaky thing, at least in my case was every time I came upon it moving, it would stop and the "Military Horse" would always stop dead in the light. Very freaky.

I also have some very cool haunting stories from my employment at Daly's Pub in downtown Sandusky. That place is just crawling with spooks.

And for those who need a spook or spector removed check this out. Very funny, although I think they really believe this stuff.

Actually, there are two Haunted Carousels, one is the Kiddy Kingdom carousel. There were two "armored" horses created for the carousel, both carved by Denzel. The "male" horse resides in Town Hall, and the "female" horse resides on the actual Kiddy Kingdim carousel. Rumor has it that Denzel's wife passed away, and her ashes were split in half and put in each of the "armored" horses. Going on, it is said that if you ride the "female" horse on the KK carousel, you can FEEL it moving up and down even though it is a stationary horse, not to mention the donkey behind it shudders like no tomorrow. Passing your hand over the "male" horse's seal in the middle of the horse you can feel a definite change in temperature and vibrations (not reccomended as touching the horse is STRICTLY forbidden and reaching over the velvet rope is also forbidden).

The Frontier Town carousel is said to house her spirit, reasons unknown as to why she resides in that building and not Town Hall or the KK carousel. Both carousels are known to move at 3 A.M. in the morning, but no longer the FT because it no longer exists. Rumor also has it that the KK carousel turns, and people can hear a faint music being played.

That horse was part of the old Frontier Carolsell which is now located in Dorney Park. The horse can be found in the Town Hall.

Jacob,

Not too sure about your source...The ORIGINAL Armored horse is in the Town Hall Museum, the armored horse on the KK Carousel is a COPY made back around 1990(?). After the Armored Horse was featured on a US Postage Stamp, CP decided to remove the original from the ride and had a copy made.

Also, the Horse is a combination of two of the greatest Carousel desginers ever, Denzel and Mueller. Some Carousel "experts" feel this specific horse is the MOST VALUABLE Horse ever.

Some interesting stories. (Yes I know this thread is old)

Anyone know of any other CP hauntings?

Stretch you from around Toledo? Theres plenty of ghosts stories about Toledo Schools. In the Haunted Ohio book (or one of the sequels) they mention the Collingwood arts center. That place is creepy, I never heard the kids which it mentions, but I do remember a blue haze in the balcony and strange noises from the basement. As for CP I don't think their doing the the haunted carousel horse thing this year. Unless they moved it. It was cool reading the stories, but when they lady came running out shouting "Booga Booga Booga!" Yeah everyone laughed! A bit off topic but, I did like the frightzone last year when a normal guest pointed to another guest hiding behind a garbage can and shouted "Look a werewolf". I replied "Thats not believable!" And he replied "Look a pervert!"! And I replied "Now thats believable!"
