How is kingda faster than top thrill dragster

Ok so since kingda is slightly faster than dragster how is it faster?. They have the same hydraulic motor

Seems logical that KK would need more speed that TTD, since the hill is taller. Drop of 400ft vs418ft.

The launch is 0-120 in 3.8 for TTD vs 0-128 in 3.5s.. So TTD accelerates slower. Perhaps the train is heavier? Or maybe the motor is the same, but the gearing/pulley sizes are different?

Or more simply put, the motor on Kingda Ka is set to launch the roller coaster to 128 mph. In theory they could completely reprogram TTD's to do that but a) It's not necessary since 120 mph gets it comfortably over the top, and b) By it going faster they may have do adjust the breaks for the increased speed. (Not positive on the second reason but it makes sense right?).

What do you mean by pully sizes being different how would a bigger pulley effect the speed

They do not have the same hydraulic motor.

OSTRs = More Speed. It's Science.

^ I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. Kinda Ka is faster because Six Flags wanted to squeak out an extra 8 mph just to hold the "record".

^or because they wanted to build a record breaking strata coaster.

^ How is that different from what I said?

This ^

The motor size or equivalences are irrelevant. The motors of both rides could easily launch the trains much faster than either 120 or 128 if they were programmed to do so. On TTD, a launch speed of 128 would make the train clear the top hat too quickly, likely causing excess negative Gs on both you and the train that could injure you and/or the train. So they instead launch at 120, the speed the ride is designed to operate at. The catch car size is probably all the same across the brand for Intamin's accelerator coasters, but even if they were different it wouldn't matter much. The trains are likely the same (or very similar) weight too. These rides are built to have as many interchangeable parts as possible - very important on anything designed by Intamin.

I imagine that the Six Flags conversation with Intamin went something like "We want a record breaking coaster so can you make us one just like the one you just made for Cedar Point but just a tiny bit faster and taller..Oh, and add a loop so it doesn't look like we're just copying them. Thanks..."

I see, I thought it had a loop. Well that just makes their attempt even more lame.

That would have to be one big loop haha.
