How much would you spend?

How much are you willing to spend for an on-ride photo or for a pop in line? I wonder if next they will charge you 10 bucks to use the restroom?
Heh I charge people to use the bathroom in rollercoaster tycoon. :)
The only on-ride photo I've ever purchased was for my daughter's first ride on Magnum. It was only because she was so proud of herself that she had conquered her fear and had actually gone on, and that the photo was her "proof" to her friends back home.

I'll probably get one on MF for the same reason, but otherwise I don't buy them.

Maybe if they were 2 or 3 bucks I'd reconsider, but anything more than that isn't worth it to me.

As far as sodas go (I've been away from Pittsburgh for 12 years now, so I've gotten away from calling it "pop") I don't buy those in the park either. Usually I have a case on hand back at the Breakers, but even if I didn't, I still wouldn't pay $2. Didn't pay $2.50 at Disney World last month either. I guess about a buck and a quarter would be my limit for a 20 oz. soda.

The street price for a 20-oz. Coke is $0.94, which is to say, $1. That's almost a 50% markup as it is. I can understand paying a little more in a park, so I figure if I'm really thirsty, I might go as high as $1.50.

Needless to say, the only pop I've been buying in the parks for the past few years is the ride pass...

Who actually bought tickets at Waldameer...and paid $1.05 for a 22-ounce cup of Pepsi product...
I live closer to Kings Island down here, and they're charging $3 for a 20 oz. which I think is just unheard of. I never get drinks at Kings Island, but for some reason every time I take the trip up to CP and ride my ceremonial last late-night ride on the Raptor before the park closes, I feel the need to use one of thier machines in line no matter the price. But last year they were doing an under the cap contest and I won a free one. So I didn't feel so bad. But I do think pop is getting more and more expensive. And the pictures I never buy. I probably won't ever buy a picture until I'm like 90 and about to die and want to take one with me to my grave.

Happy thoughts...

Question: How do you explain the actions of millions of people who wait hours upon hours to be dropped down a hill???
Answer: You don't...
The $2 bottle of Aquafina in the queues retails for $2.75 at the MOVIES!

How the heck do they get away with charging $2.50 for a pop. Here is one way to save money, its called bring a bottle. The friendly people at the concession stand usually are cool and fill it up for you. It may not be "bottled water" but it gets the job done.

I don't mind spending $2 for a soda. Who cares, I'm on vacation. If course, when you work downtown, $2 won't buy you anything for lunch either, so I guess it's all relative.

Neil -

In February of '98, I went down to the comedy club in Station Square. The comedian was originally from Pittsburgh and scrapped his regular routine for an entire 30 minute monologue on Pittsburghese. It was funny as hell, especially after having been away for so many years.

As a footnote -- the comedian's name? Rick Rockwell. Yep, that Rick Rockwell. Who knew then?

What's amazing is when you get in line in the morning and you see the guys filling the machines up with pop and then you go back a few hours later and the dang things are sold out!

I guess I don't mind shelling $2 for a cold soda, but the on-ride photos are quite rediculas...how about 3-4 bucks. Guess you have to make a profit somewhere or we wouldn't be getting to many new roller coasters.
The highest price I will for a pepsi(or slice) is 3.00 and that is for lunch only because I don't prefer to drink from the water fountin with my pretzel. Otherwise it works just fine.
Actually we all joke about paying to use the restroom but in the 80's tha idea was tried at many places. I remeber very well, going to Conneaut Lake Park in the 80's and them having locks installed on stalls that cost a dime to open. And as I type this my wife is telling me that in the same time period many airports tried the same thing. Yes it seems ridiculous to pay to go to the restroom, but I've seen amusement parks (well, Conneaut at least) do it.

As far as drinks, food, photos, etc. I agree with Jeff. Its vacation. The last thing I'm thinking about is money. Relax and have fun. This year my plan is to get an on-ride photo from all 5 coasters that offer it. My 2000 trip immortalized in photo form. The only other on ride photo I have ever bought was from Mantis in 1996 when it frist opened. *** This post was edited by lordgonchar on 5/26/2000. ***
There's a huge difference in people's willingness to spend money if they're on vacation. But if you're a passholder and are making many day trips to the park, that $2 soda looks mighty expensive.

In the five trips I've made so far this year I've bought a malt and an order of fries. And more cups of free ice water than I can remember.

Of course, the pay toilet idea mostly died out because they tended to be unsanitary and to cause parts of the affected area to stink. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. --Dave Althoff, Jr.
I spend as little as possible, period. We always take a cooler of food and all of the extras to go around. But it seems like I always forget something. This year I forgot the roll of paper towels, cheese, and plates. Each on a separate visit. I wonder if leaving at 5:30AM has anything to do with it? Trying to save cash can have it's drawbacks.
