Intamin's prototype 4D coaster

I remember someone saying that Arrow/S&S have a patent on the controlled rotation seats. If that's true doesn't a patent only last for so many years?

Like 20-something years if I'm not mistaken.

I hope they don't have a patent.

I'm well aware that Cedar point has a great relationship with Intamin.

What exactly is so great about it?

Well, the fact that CP's 2 newest coasters are Intamin. And the fact that Intamin seemed to cooperate well with the issues of TTD.

You mean 3 newest?

I'm glad someone else says that Intamin cooperated with TTD's issues. Many people on CoasterBuzz and here all say CP's relation with Intamin is poor and CP will no long build their coasters. I really wonder what article they read that even hinted CP was having a hard time with Intamin. They did everything they could do, as well as CP did. WT and TTD both gave them problems, but both of these rides pulled in a lot of money for CP.

On coasterbuzz some people were saying that this is the coaster that they are going to be building before Dick Kinzel's retirement. Does anyone know if this is true, or is it still a rumor?

It's only a rumor.

But could you really count Millennium as "new". I mean it was built 5 years ago (not that that's long) so could we really classify it as "new"?
It's not old but it's not new.

I guess we should then ask "How many years does it take to declassify a coaster as new?" *** Edited 2/28/2005 2:03:23 AM UTC by TTD 120mph***

Even though it (Millennium) was built 5 years ago it is still one of the 3 newest built at Cedar Point. Same as saying 3 most recent.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

If Intamin does in fact build a large 4-D roller coaster, it will be under the table untill contruction.

Technically the current design is not a 4th dimension coaster. The origin of that name is that a regular roller coaster can be described in 3 dimensions: X, Y, and Z. This would be length, width and height respectively. A 4th dimension was needed to describe the controlled rotation of the seats. Since the seats are not controlled, there isn't a 4th dimension.

The wheel assemblies design in the prototype can only change it's pitch. Each assemblyneeds to also have a yaw and each pair needs roll isolation to take banked corners.

Thanks, Forgotten. I've been thinking that since I saw the article but have been too lazy to put it into words. As it looks right now, this ride is just a rock-o-plane tub on the side of a track and that's not a "4D" coaster.

Yes, very well put Forgotten. *** Edited 2/28/2005 8:26:08 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***

S & S Arrow in Logan, Utah, has been working on improving Arrow's 4D coaster (The Type At SF Magic Mountain). And latest word around Utah is they will introduce in at the trade show this winter (2005). I think a cool addition to Cedar Point would be the Screamin' Squierrel (I Can't Spell Today). I had a chance to ride it here in Utah. Man what a ride!

Who said they were working on it? They said they sold one that would open in 2004 too. Mind telling me where that one is?

Jeff - Advocate of Great Great Tunnels™ - Co-Publisher - PointBuzz - CoasterBuzz - Blog - Music

They have not sold any 4D as of yet. And a grand son of the owner said they were working on it. Im not sure who they sold the screaming squierrel too though.

I thought a 4D was being built in Japan. I remember clicking on the link over at coasterbuzz.

Is there any more sites like that with future coasters and rides?

www.rcdb.com if you were reffering to the screaming squierell, one was sold to a park in Eroupe. And one may have been sold, but has not been built as of yet on the 4D Coaster.
