Is anyone excited about the new ride?

It seems that all I hear is about sadness that Space spiral and Disaster Transport are leaving and no excitement about the new wing coaster. are park fans getting too conservative and don't want anything new? People say all CP cares about now is thrills but this will be the first real new thrill ride since Maverick six years ago. And probably the last until about 2020. I figure with the new guy at the helm I think more family attractions are on the way.

Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed the 2 soon to be closed rides. I worked on Spiral for 3 seasons and was sent to work on DT many times. And they were fun rides but that's the amusement business. I have liked many rides and attractions that have left the park like the Sky Wheel, Fun House, Jungle Larry's, Oceana, the IMAX theater, Wildcat and the Mill Race but for the most part have liked what the park has added to replace them. In an ideal world we would never have to lose rides just keep adding more rides but alas we don't live in an ideal world.

At least people can come and say goodbye and ride one last time. At one time you didn't find out a ride was gone until you came to the park and found the ride gone.

I'm excited for the new ride as are many. Once an official announcement comes, people will show more excitement. All we know as of now is that 2 rides will be demolished and most likely a new coaster is coming.

I'm super excited that we have another thread on a project that is still unconfirmed.

A couple things to keep in mind here, no official announcement has been made on anything new coming to the park, if your reading on Facebook I would say %80 or more don't know about the leaked memo. As far as this memo goes how do we even know its real, we don't know who the memo came from, we don't know how anyone outside of the CF board got it, it all seems a little fishy to me. that said half of it we at least know was right, DT and SS are being removed, but as for the new coaster and purposed lay out we don't know. Are we going to see a wing rider, 4th dimension, launch, giant double looping woodie that goes over lake Erie, who knows. I'm not going to get excited till I get an official announcement from the park.

There is a reason they are announcing the removal first. The hope is people will have that shock and than give it time to die down a bit than announce the new attraction that will trump the previous disappointing announcement and hope people can forget about the removal of two rides. if they would announce them at the same time you wouldn't get the same effect.

Have they announced a new ride?

Oh man, with my luck, they are going to build an amphitheater.

What would be wrong with that?

What would be really cool is if the Wing Coaster went out into the beach or water for a section. Although im not sure if they can do that due to the supports in the water. Mainly since im sure Cedar Point would not want the chance of a boat running into them.

No.

I'm not too excited about the new ride. When I've told other people about the ride, the response is usually something like 'so how is that different then Raptor/Mantis/Maverick'. And I say 'well, see, the seats will be on either side of the track rather then above or below it'. That's usually followed by blank stares. And that generally how I feel, we are getting something that is a slight variation on what we already have.

Would the reaction be different if it was a wooden coaster coming for next year? That's what I have been wanting CP to build for years. I see El Toro and The Voyage and think about how huge something like those 2 wooden coasters would go over at CP!

Perfect location, wrong coaster in my opinion.

So your acquaintances' reactions mirror your own? How shocking. It's almost as if your delivery of the information influenced their perception of the rumored attraction (that you know nothing about, by the way).

I don't know if the reaction would be different no matter what at this point.

I really think that you won't see as many sour people after Cedar Point announces WHAT they will actually be building.

People are going to complain about everything... Unfortunately, when you have a place like Cedar Point that has so many emotional ties to people, you won't be able to make everyone happy.

I bet there were people upset when Magnum was built in '89!

Of course there were. I'm sure people were upset that CP had not brought The Gravity Group people back in a time machine to build El Toro--possibly as a 500 foot Aqua Trax.

You would think that CP would have learned after people stopped riding MF, TTD & Maverick and attendance at Holiday world topped 3m people a year after building a new woodie. :)

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

The Voyage cannot be replicated at a park like CP. Part of what makes the Voyage special is the terrain and the woods. CP lacks that. But it does have water frontage, which is cool in it's own, different way.

That's why they should start building over the water. ;D That would be so cool, a coaster entirely over the water.

Am I personally excited? No, but let me explain.

I love having something new, and getting a new coaster would be cool. Yes, losing Disaster Transport and Space Spiral, two rides I have many many fond memories of, does cheese me off, but that's not why I'm not pumped for the new wing coaster. I googled photos and watched a POV of one off of youtube and although I muchly-muchly adore Raptor, by going by photos and the video, the new one won't be my cup of tea.

RPM & others, I'm guessing you have never been on Wild Eagle or the other wing-riders out there.

I'm guessing no, most of them are 14 and under and can't drive to either place that has one.
