Is the yellow train on MF the "bad one"?

Ok, so whenever I went on MF last year I always made sure not to go on the yellow train, because for some reason I remember someone saying here that the yellow train was rough? Is this true? I haven't ridden the yellow train in ages.

I've never heard this. Now you got me wondering. :)

Yellow (AKA "The Flying Banana") is my favorite train. It's the green train that was the troublesome one. Keyword - WAS.

Indeed green was rather horrendous. But, that problem was solved shortly after opening when it was transferred off permanently, into the sand at the bottom of the Lake close to the intake for Thunder Canyon.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Was there a green train for MF or is it just a joke? I don't think there is anything rough about the yellow train, I just know that it was the one that stopped on the lift hill when I was there cause someone took off their seatbelt.

haha I don't like the yellow one to much, but it likes me. The last two trips last year I got stuck in the yellow train...like my restraint would not open...

I've found the yellow train shuffles more than the other 2, but that's just been my experience.

I remember when the trains arrived, all wrapped in plastic. I was still shooting on film back then! The green one was nice.

Every car has 12 wheels on it, the front one twice that. Plus you've got springs or whatever that rubbery stuff is on the wheel joints. Add all of that together and there are a ton of factors that can contribute to the ride quality of a particular car.

I remember toward the end of one season the springs were so sloppy that, sitting in the back seat, you could see every car in front of you laterally shuffle all over the place. It wasn't uncomfortable, but I suspect the trains were running slow because of it.

Out of curiosity, what is this so-called "green train"?

I love the yellow train. I think it looks the best in contrast to the blue track. In terms of ridership, I don't really notice too much of a difference. That ride is silky smooth no matter how you ride it.

When MF opened, it came with four trains. The current three plus a lime green train.

Unfortunately after the first few weeks of testing, the green train damaged itself pretty horribly and was taken off the ride, forever.

Right, it was a dark green, not lime green.

That green train sure did have a nice shine to it. I hope the algae hasn't destroyed it too much. Maybe some day it will be dredged up and they'll put a car on display in Town Hall.

Then again, out of sight, out of mind??

CPboy, I posted this last summer. Is that where you heard that the yellow train was rougher? In mine and my sisters experience it was.

My first ride of the day on MF was a yellow train. My sister and I "grayed" out at the bottom of the first hill. That freaked us out a bit, because that has NEVER happened to me before. MF has proven itself time and time again to be the smoothest coaster I had ever ridden. So needless to say, it was a bit wierd.

That was not going to turn us away, so we took another ride. This time it was the red train. And it was very smooth. Much different from our first ride.

At the end of the night we remembered that our first ride was a yellow train, and thought that maybe that is what contributed to it being so rough. So we vowed to ride eathier the blue or red trains. Of course when it was our turn to get on, it was the yellow train.

The people behind us were very rude. They thought it was the dummest thing that we thought one color of a train made a difference from the other. No one wanted to switch places with us, and this entire family was making a very big deal about it.

Thankfully someone had gotten sick in one of the seats on the yellow train, so no one rode that one. We ended up riding the blue train I believe, and it was a lot of fun.

So IMO, yes color does make a difference. It is not necessarily the color that does it. But as Jeff had said, there are a lot of things that contribute to the ride quality of a particular car. So to the people standing behind us in line that day I have this to say: Does the color yellow make the car go faster? No. But do many other things make it a bit rough? Yes, dummies!!

That is all I have to say. :)

Now I want a green replica train.... :(

Even if the replica of the train looks beaten up ;)

Jesz - the ride being "rougher" would not contribute in any way to your supposed "greying out" at the bottom of the first drop.
