Maverick Shoulder Harness

Are you holding onto the over-the-shoulder portion or the the handle bars? I've never found those handle bars very useful or comfortably placed.

I keep my arms down, head back and hold on. But, my neck still slams into the restraint. I'm not saying the ride is horrific because of it. I'm just saying it would be amazing for me if they didn't have the neck cutters.

Last time I rode Maverick, I kept my arms down, head back, held on, and didn't hit my head or neck on the restraint once (and got no bruises).

I've found that keeping your head back is crucial, and that will give you the most pleasant ride possible. Keeping your head back during the first half of the ride is easy, but is much more difficult during the second half.

During the launch and the quick turn up the hill and then hitting the trims (and slowing down quite a bit), your head naturally wants to come forward, so that your neck is even with the sides of the restraints. You really have to fight this, keep your head back until the s-turn, and then you will have no discomfort during the stengal dives and experience the thrill they were designed to give.

I love trying to fight the rides I'm on. :) Rides are way more fun if you can just go with the flow and not get injured. Rides like MF come to mind.

How can we convince CP to get these ASAP for Maverick?

I've learned to grip the hard straps on Maverick for it to not be a problem, but I've seen & heard a huge number of complaints about Maverick and bruising / pain while riding with the current hard-style restraints.

While Maverick is already a great ride to me, this could be icing on the cake...and make the ride great for the haters. If anyone experienced KI's Flight of Fear retrofit, what a world of difference a restraint can make!

I am also thrilled about I-305's update. I hope we can see a new restraint design on Maverick. It would make the ride amazing.

Was the bill footed by Cedar Fair or Intamin?

I rode Maverick tonight twice for ERT. Surprisingly this is one time I can say I walked away unharmed. Not that its been a bad ride, but it could use these restraints.

These are the restraints they have been talking about going on from the begining. So, I assume the cost was by Intamin. The real question is why did they wait this long to put them on.

They are more of like a thick backpack strap rater than the usual harness by Intamin.

While I am all for these new straps on Maverick, the one thing that I wouldn't be entirely pleased about would be the fact that they hold you in more than the traditional OTSR. That means that Maverick would loose a lot of it's airtime factor. Now I don't actually know what these new straps are like, and am just going off of what coastercrew is saying, but I think it is something to think about.

Well, they do hold you in the seat more. I don't recall ever having the lap bar loose enough to come out of the seat anyway. Anyway, although you may not come our of the seat, you will still feel the Negative G's.

Man if you think Maverick's shoulder harness/lapbar are bad Think about riding the corkscrew!!!! and tell me witch is worse!!!! and besides your shoulders have minimal contact with the overhead straps!!!! you are primarily held down by the lap bar!
I can see why the Hartline spin was removed when i rode it, but not for a harness/lapbar issue.
Also the risk for neck injury to taller people will be at minimum as well for not being crunched down in the seat!!!with new harness/lapbar style that you see on Maverick as a matter of fact if you look The CO. who built that ride is using that style more and more,even on ones that do not go upside down,but it is good that way cause you know either way it will be comfortable and safe.

I have ridden the all the coasters at K.I. and C.P. that i have lost count!!!!! and it is not the amount of times i have ridden, it is just the joy of riding them for me!!!!

And I forgot to add that B&M makes comfortable harness systems too. that is one reason that i like Raptor, due to the fact that they thought of tall people and there is plenty of room and it primarily hols you down by you lap!!! and it dose not Crunch you in there is plenty of shoulder room as well, i just wanted to add that, but the old Arrow design FORGET IT!!!! whiplash waiting to happen for someone taller!
I cannot speak on the Flier type yet like Superman Cause i have not bein on one yet but when i do i will give my little review.

Has anyone heard anything about or seen Maverick's restraints for the 2011 season?

I feel like the change to new shoulder straps is inevitable...it's just a matter of when. With the warm reception the new Intimidator straps have received, I don't get what the hold up is for Maverick.

While I don't personally feel the current restraints are unbearable, I have friends nearly refusing to ride Maverick because the shoulder harness beats and bruises their neck/shoulders.

While I can easily brace to avoid any discomfort, I imagine inexperienced riders share their complaints (especially when holding hands up). The new straps would likely put this issue to rest, be relatively inexpensive, protect CF from potential lawsuits, and provide a more pleasant experience for all.

Given that Maverick has seen consistently long lines in its 4 years of existence, I don't think the restraints are as much an issue as enthusiasts make them out to be.

And if a few people don't like the restraints, that just means fewer people in front of me in line. :)

Other than the same 20 or so people that have complained here or at a similar discussion forum, I have never heard another human complain about the restraints, including myself.

See that's the way I feel mostly, and it makes me almost angry to hear people complain. But for sure this is not complaints from enthusiasts...rather new or first-time riders.

I chalked it up to whining until I actually saw proof of significant bruising the next day on a girl. I felt bad, as I made her ride 3 times, giving instructions how to brace to avoid discomfort. Mind you, this was a very thin girl. My friend also had bruising from holding his hands up, though I advised against it. They both feel it's a painful ride as a result, and I have to argue to ride it each time I go with them.

It's obviously not the complaint of 20 or so riders though, as the manufacturer wouldn't have changed previous (i305) and future (Cheetah Hunt) installations. I'm confident the change will come to Maverick eventually, and it should make a great ride even better.

How about we just remove the shoulder bar from Maverick altogether and be done with it?
