No-not a MS Bashing thread
I just got to thinking last night and was wondering if anyone knows exactly how long it took them to build MS?
And if it opened on its scheduled date or not?
Thanks!!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
As I recall, construction started in August of 1990. It did open on time but it was close. There was only one train ready at the beginning and they were still working on finishing the structure as late as early June.
At risk of dating myself here, in '91, I was at the park opening weekend after my high school prom. MEAN STREAK was open, but only two trains were operating, one for most of the day. The line was horrendously long (2+ hours minimum) and we passed on riding it. My cohorts who did wait loved the ride back then, but wished they would've waited in shorter lines.

I recall my Physics Day trip in May, 1991. We got to the park around 9:30am (after the exhausting 10 minute bus ride). We headed back to the Mean Streak. By the time we got there, the pre-opening line was already to the Stockade.

Yeah I remember being there opening day. Employees were saying that they had just finished the final tests for MS like the day before. There was only 1 train operating and the wait was 4 hours! I am not exaggerating. I'll never forget that day because it was one of my worst times at Cedar Point (If there is such a thing). Half of the coasters were shut down or not working properly. I haven't gone opening day since.
I was there and waited the four hours. When I got in line it was about 12:00 p.m. and when I was finally able to ride it was around 4 p.m. In fact the line actually started from across the railroad tracks.
I rode MS during the 91 season, and I waited over 4 hours, in 94 degree heat. This was before the canopies were in place, and it was damn hot...but worth the ride. I loved it. Even though it gives me a headache now, I still love it. It's so out of control!

4 hours...You know I can believe it. If you actually look at Mean Streak's queue line, its the longest in the whole park. And keep in mind, when it first opened in 91, you had to go through the whole queue plus the one outside of the entrance, where they would set up for crowded days...
