Mean Streak?

Why would they build a hypercoaster or giga coaster when they already have one of each?

Everyone throws around the "they need to build a world class coaster" - I'm still not sure what "world class" is supposed to mean.

It means one of the best coasters in the world. Top of the class. Only thing Cedar Point is missing. A great Wood Coaster.

Have you ever been on an RMC? Just curious. They are phenomenal. I personally think an RMC Mean Streak could be the best one. It's such a long ride and has a lot of space over there. The possibilities are endless. I love GCI Woodies but I want to see RMC take a crack at Mean Streak over a new GCI.

I'm sure it would be a good ride. But it definitely won't be a long ride. RMC doesn't use steel wheels, so a lot of speed is lost through friction. I'd rather have the ride stay traditional, and have profile changes made as with RWB years ago. I'm not in charge yet, so that probably won't happen.

To be clear, RMC does not use steel wheels on their Ibox track, but they do use steel wheels on their topper track.

You can have a very long ride with plastic wheels. Look at Magnum, only a little taller than Mean Streak and the track is over 5000' long and it has plenty of speed when it hits the trims after the final tunnel.

Why do we believe this? Because of Mean Streak's exciting layout? Because of the universal praise that other Dinn-Summers coasters get? Because RMC is so good that they could have transformed Hercules and Psyclone among others?

^RMC didn't exist (as a renovator) when Hercules and Psyclone were torn down.

Texas Giant was Mean Streak's slightly smaller, somewhat more intense sister coaster. It's new version is still considered among the best RMCs. It was also a Dinn-Summers.

RMC doesn't keep the old layout. It takes the general layout of the ride and adds airtime hills, twists, and more. Have you looked at New Texas Giant? It originally started out with a set of fan turns like MS (3 to take it all the way around instead of 2 like MS) and a block brake. Now that same section has 2 ejector airtime moments and 3 overbanked curves.

Iron Rattler also replaced a long, boring helix with a section full of overbanks and airtime hills.

Twisted Colossus took the old Colossus (essentially a wooden Gemini, but with slower turnarounds and a bit fewer airtime hills) and made it into a fast-paced, exciting coaster.

The Six Flags RMCs prove a point: just because Mean Streak has a terribly boring layout doesn't mean that RMC Mean Streak would have a boring layout. On the contrary, I'd expect something with Maverick-level intensity.

I am fully aware what the loose definition of "world class" is - I just feel like that phrase gets thrown out a lot without a lot of thinking.

And I agree, I'm not sure why the solution here is automatically "RMC it" - yes, the layout would drastically change and the only thing that would remain would be the placement of much of the structure. Those who say it will be cheaper than a new coaster, a full RMC conversion would likely be similar in total cost, as it is a whole new ride, not an extensive retrack.

Why couldn't they build another hyper or giga in the park? B&M hypers and gigas offer such a different experience then that of an Arrow or Intamin hyper there is no reason they couldn't coexist in the park.

Or a nice family coaster like FireChaser Express, a Wild Mouse, a spinner like Cobra's Curse, a flyer, a 4D coaster, etc... While I do agree that CP is lacking even a decent woodie, there are plenty of other options out there as well that would also help round out the coaster collection.

But, if I could have my vote I would vote for RMC to get their paws on Mean Streak. I've only ridden Twisted Colossus but that made me a believer of their magic, and yes I've also ridden Colossus before the conversion.

I've rode Goliath at Six Flags Great America and Wicked Cyclone at Six Flags New England. Phenomenal rides. I'm a true believer in anything RMC does. They deserve every ounce of praise they get.

Medusa Steel Coaster is the exception, I believe there are steel wheels on that one.

Rob Decker won't be stupid about the pacing even if it is an RMC. Plus Alan Shilke is a God. Wicked cyclone actually had a problem of going too fast so they switched to slower wheels I believe. B&Ms tend to slow down fast and Rob allowed Fury to keep the pace the whole ride.

B&M has made kiddy coasters.

Perhaps there is evidence supporting a conversion of some sort: if you look at the footers on Mean Streak many are marked with an orange dot, but not all of them are. Maybe these are related to which parts are being removed/changed? Or it means nothing more than which footers/supports have been checked over/inspected.

Both of those things have been discussed quite a lot. Tony does like playing games, so that's a definite possibility.

But don't underestimate the value of this fan site's collective views. I think you have a point even if it's been rehashed over & over in years gone by. Business stats have proven that the majority is not vocal even if they often have a strong opinion. Example: for every 1 complaint, 26 people feel the same (White House Consumer Affairs).

I agree it's their party & they can cry if they want to, but they are in business to attract customers to spend money. To me, every negative at the park people can talk about ("that ride was awful") deters a substantial amount of consumers that may reconsider attendance by going elsewhere.
