MF Retrospective

Now that a large percentage of us have seen/ridden Millennium Force, let's take some time to look back at some of our silly/accurate predictions that we made long before the ride opened. I, for one, thought the lift would be the biggest problem. I am shocked! It works well. There was just something that bothered me about the fact that it had to shift into reverse once the train disengaged. Seemed like shifting from forward to reverse like 1000 times a day would be hard on the transmission. Oh well, shows how much I know. Any others want to share?

What still cracks me up to this day is the couple of people that were not that impressed by it when the press release was made back in July and even went so far as to say it looked like a lame ride. I wonder what those people are saying now?

Reversing the lift shouldn't be a reliability problem. Elevators in buildings do this constantly when they go up and then down the shaft. I'm not so sure that the transmission actually shifts from forward to reverse, like a car transmission. I bet MF has a DC drive motor that can be reversed electrically. That way the transmission is just a set of reduction gears, it doesn't actually have to shift.

Or how about the guy who wrote an article for a newspaper(don't remember which one, but I think the link was on another site). This guy said that MF was as rough as a woodie. How could he have ridden the ride with a comment like that?

You can fool others, but nothing you do is hidden from God.
JESUS rules :) :)
The guy who said it was as rough as a woodie was a writer for my local (Fort Wayne, IN) newspaper, and according to him, he rode it like 18 times that day, and it shook everything out of him...I think he was just scared...

MF Rides: 02
Its a lot taller than I expected. And I was worried about the second hill and how it would effect the 3rd hill. Millennium Force is a great roller coaster even if I haven't ridden it yet

CoastFreak- I have that article from the Ft. Wayne paper, and I have to agree withya! He was probably the one taking dramimine!! LOL I was their and saw a reporter or photographer taking some pills. Then I saw what they were, and laughed!!
The ride is so smooth! More than I thought it would be. I rode S:ROS at Darien Lake the day after MF was announced. I was excited early on about it! And seeing the pieces sitting in the back parking lot was so cool!! Getting up close and personal before it was even built!
I had been worried about the coasters effect on the Frontier Trail as well as Paddlewheel Excursions. There was really nothing to worry about. Despite the its size, MF is really fairly unobtrusive. It really didn't affect Paddlewheel too much either. That ride had gone downhill so much so I was afraid that MF would be its final doom. Mantis and Camp Snoopy had much more of an effect then MF. The Frontier Trail has never looked better. The tunnel under MF adds to the feel of the trail and the petting zoo recieved a much needed facelift. I always loved the view of the Giant Wheel with the train station in front but since the appearance of that giant screen, nobody could appreciate that view anyway and the new home of the wheel is a perfect fit and much needed change in that area of the park.
Easy there, Candyman --

I'm as big a coaster fanatic as you'll find on this board, but you won't catch me dead on most thrill rides without popping a few Dramamine first.

I love the adrenaline rush that I get from coasters, but in a lot of cases, my equilibrium ain't quite as thrilled as the rest of me is, know what I'm sayin'?
