Michigan's Adventure question.

Just a few quick questions for any of you who may have visited MA.

Living in Michigan my whole life, yet have never been there so I'm clueless. Thinking of a August trip just me, my boyfriend and my daughter.

Now my daughter just turned 3, today actually. She's just over 36 inches so i know that leaves her some room for bigger rides. Just wondering if the park would be well traveled with a toddler. Personally I'm sure she'll be more interested in the water area, so i guess what i'm really asking is just how kid/parent friendly is the park.

Normally I'd never ask questions like this, but this is our first big trip, and it's to somewhere unknown to me.

Also if anyone knows any good things to see on that side of the state feel free to drop some suggestions. The beach is a no-brainer, and I'm also interested in the sand dunes.

Thanks much for any input.

MiAdv is geared towards kids your daughters age! She will find much to do in both the amusement park and water park, and so will you.

Other points of interest that should not be missed include PJ Hoffmaster State Park and Muskegon State Park.

And if you have any detailed questions about the park, let me know, as I think I know quite a bit about the park (I run the park's only unofficial website).

Hey Froshy, you wouldn't happen to have that website address would you? I'd like to see the site.

MiA is a complete day if you have kids and can enjoy the water park. If not, then honestly I'd have a hard time spending more than four or five hours there. Timbers is of course the out-and-back airtime masterpiece, and the mouse is kinda fun as well. I haven't been there since Cedar Fair cleaned up the place a bit with landscaping and signage.

Now I heard this a while ago but is infact MA getting any new coasters? I heard Cedar Fair was planning a campground, overall expansion, and either a 200+ hyper, or an Inverted Impulse(Wicked Twister). Does anybody else know anything? *** Edited 7/4/2004 12:04:55 AM UTC by TTD 120mph***

I'm going to the park for the first time ever. I'm very excited to try out Shivering Timbers. I just hope it is as good as is hyped up to be.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I'm really looking forward to going out there this summer. Some of my best childhood memories are of vacations so I'm hoping to start her off early.

Checking the ride list via the MiA website, it looks like she'll be able to ride quite a few things. I didn't see it mentioned, or maybe I didn't look hard enough, but will they do the measurement wristbands like CP does?

And hello to TDD_120mph, I noticed you as well hail from boring Lincoln Park, Mi.

I believe they will.

Gomez, my dad used to own a driving range maybe 3 miles down the road and I used to ride Timbers all of the time. its a very rough ride and very fun. You never get a break going over the hills and the returning airtime is some of the best ever, not to forget the trick track and tons of head choppers. The double helix is amaizing and thats why it is #2 in the world. So trust me, it is all that it is hyped uped to be.
One of the best parts about MiA with toddlers is that it is relatively compact---I end up hauling my kids about four miles total in the wagon per full day at Cedar Point. Also, our kids (as toddlers) had at least as much fun in the MiA waterpark as they did in Soak City. It's well worth a visit.
In my personal opinion, I would rank Michigan's Adventure's waterpark higher than Cedar Point's, because:

1. It's included with admission
2. More slides and wavepools
3. Very compact

I guess that's my opinion though, but I think your daughter will love the park. Make sure to get her on as many of the coasters as possible, and also giving yourself some great Shivering Timbers marathoning!

Enjoy the park!

I guess I wasn't really looking hard enough for that web address, it was right in front of me! Thanx.

Well, little ones will like going to Kellogg's Cereal City in Battle Creek. Kids get to hang out with Tony the Tiger. What could be better!

Just remember this about Timbers...do not judge it based on an early morning ride. It takes a couple hours to really warm up and deliver. The beautiful thing about MiAdv is that the longest lines for the coasters are the first hour and last hour of the day, basically when the waterpark is closed but the rest of the park is open. All the major rides are practically walk-ons in the middle of the day. Here's what I suggest. Ride every other ride in the park before Timbers. That way you'll give it enough time to warm up and the lines will be shorter when you get back there.

I haven't ridden Timbers very early in the day, but like any wood I can imagine it would need to warm up really well to be good and not rough. That ride is a little gem in michigan though, our little secret coaster.

Suprisingly, I would rank Mad Mouse a very close second to Timbers, its just a fun ride all the way through. Especially if you sit in the left hand seat. After the lift hill, when you go through the first turn it feels like you'll be thrown out onto the midway.

Wolverine Wildcat is also an enjoyable ride, although I wish they would/could put a second train on that ride. Although ST is barely able to run 2 trains, usually one train is back on the blocks before they get the next one out of the station.

I just hope they add something this off-season. I would love to see a 200 ft inverted coaster.

John

I can't imagine something big in 2005 (the water and sewer issues are coming along better now though), but 2006 will be big (the park's 50th year).

Do you know how much of that land CF owns? Is it only back to the treeline or do they have even beyond that. It's nice that they have plenty of room to expand though, and they have left the rides in such a way that they can easily expand without having to try and find pathways around rides.
i know that the land by ST stops at the turn around, but i believe that it slants out to the right giving it way more room to the back. They have only use 1/4th of their land as of 2004.

They own around 250 acres. Actually, the park owns up to the old railroad tracks (and I believe on the north end a bit beyond them), but Timbers couldn't go that far because of some rule up there (a ride has to be at least so far from the property border, or something like that).

Actually timbers01, it slants to the west (left). Here's a picture of the unused portion of land (you can see Adventure Falls and Wolverine Wildcat on the left).
