That really stinks. I'm glad I didn't take any days off work to come out. I'm coming this weekend though, so hopefully it's just a minor malfunction.

Magnum would have been great. There would be no line and its almost guaranteed not to breakdown. They need to switch it back or put in an extra ERT for Magnum. Anyone know the reasoning behind this?

Probably because Magnum, unless you have an IQ of 12 and can't find it on the park map, already has substantial ERT for the taking during normal business hours. Maverick, on the other hand, does not, thus ERT there is far more popular and logical.

It's simple business. Maverick ERT will bring more passholders to the park for the day, while Magnum ERT will bring less (as was witnessed last year). Although ride nights are a perk, CP is still a business, and they want as many people in their park as possible.

Hi everyone. I'd like to address your concerns.

First, and foremost, let me apologize to those of you who joined us on Platinum Ride Night last Thursday. At the time of the mechanical delay, we were confident that it would be taken care of in a reasonable amount of time. However, it was not resolved and unfortunately, we had to call it around 11 p.m.

As you can imagine, we were not expecting any delay, so please know that we were disappointed as well. And for this to happen on two ride nights? What are the chances? Obviously, we all should have purchased a lottery ticket that day.

I can assure you that we've learned a few things and will be better prepared for this, should it occur again. We've pooled our resources together and have come up with some good solutions.

In the future, the only hold-up should be weather, which we cannot control.

I invite you to join us for the rescheduled night, this Thursday, July 24. Shortly after park closing for one hour. You must have a Platinum Pass for entry.

Also, we did indeed switch the ride night on Sunday, August 24. After consulting with our Operations Department and many, many Platinum Passholders, it was clear that having another night on Maverick would prove to be more popular and advantageous. That's not to say we don't love Magnum, but we try to accommodate a vast range of fans and guests - and many fans and guests are screaming, "give me more Maverick."

We look at the ride opportunities each year, so we'll evaluate our choices and schedule what we see is the best fit.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully, thanks for understanding.

How about doubling up that ride night.

Maverick AND Magnum! Then those of us who want old-school can have it, and those who want more Maverick can have that as well.

I can say I don't know many amusement parks that have a PR man come on a fansite. Thanks, Tony.

You know Tony... John doesn't have a bad idea... I know it would require a second crew being on the clock for another hour, but that would be really cool if you had a "2 for 1" ride night... Magnum or Maverick. You would still get your large crowds for Maverick, but those who love their Magnum marathon would still get it. I realize it would take a bit more personnel than normal... but its a thought.

Whatever happens... Thanks for the perks we do get! We do appreciate them!

PS -- You obviously knew that MF and TTD were going to break down on their ride nights... we know how much you love to talk to the angry guests ;)

Bring on the two-for!!! It would cost an extra what.....$50 in employee pay? Other than the cost of the employees, you'd only be running the coaster for an extra hour.

I am still pretty sore about them taking away Maggie for my birthday. (If you couldn't already tell)

Ride on, MrScott!

Not to mention, if Maggie was going to be on the bill for that night, I would actually make the trip and spend the whole day (if not Saturday as well) at the park. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others like me, who would skip it if it was Maverick.

Not that I don't like Maverick, but sticking around an hour to get 2 extra rides on Mav isn't worth it. An extra hour, and an extra 10 or 15 rides on Maggie IS worth it.

For you and I and a few others, but certainly not for the majority. That's the point, I think.

Switching it to Maverick is the logical, correct choice. How long do any of us Maggie lovers typically wait for a ride anyway? An average of 10 minutes?

Chuck Wagon's avatar

That's cause nobody but coaster dorks want ERT on Magnum. ;)

Besides, you can have ERT on Magnum everyday from like 10am - 11am.

^ - and if you were any kind of coaster dork, you would know that night rides on Magnum are way better than morning rides. The only thing at the park that competes with a Magnum night ride is an MF night ride.

I have never had a night ride on either coaster so I cannot say which one.

Not to mention that ERT can sometimes have additional perks. During normal operating hours you are not going to be able to stay on the train and keep riding. Last year at Magnum ERT there were few enough people that we could just sit on the trains and keep riding. It was the best ride night I've ever had! ( not to mention it was the same day I proposed to my fiancee ;) )

^Aww, that sounds like an awesome day. :) Did you propose to her at Cedar Point?

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

Chuck Wagon's avatar

Of course night rides are better than morning rides. :) But they do actually want real people to come to these events and not just us dorks, hence the switch to a more incentive ride like Maverick. As Josh mentioned, it was a light crowd for Magnum last year.
