Model

I built a model of Wicked Twister a few years back. I thought, hey, this should be easy right? Working with wood and twisting it isn't fun at all. I built it out of 99% balsa wood. The station had some cardboard attached, and I carved into dowels to create the twist. I even glued sand to it for the beach area.

I LOVE that Raptor model!
How much did that cost for all the materials?
How long did it take?

The sets themselves run between $200 and $500, but you can just buy pieces and parts if you want.

Too much for me :(

I would love to build a model, but I have neither the space nor money (time I have plenty of). That WT model is killer man.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I don't understand why those coaster

That Raptor is awsome! I can't even get my Scorpion set to run consistently:(

I did it in art last year. It took me the majority of the semester mostly due to procrastination. The 'blueprints' and shown behind it (the track) and below it (the supports).

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

That's pretty sweet actaully.

I made balsa models in my engineering class whenever I had the time. And since I finished the projects before most people in the class, I had tons of time. I made these 2 models.

I have a working model carousel that I made as part of my senior project this past year. It has sterling silver rings on it that I cast that can be taken off and worn on your fingers. The animals go up and down while the carousel goes around.

Then I made my Pouncing Tiger rollercoaster of course along with the carousel and other projects...

I only got a B for all that work. Another guy sat around all year and completed NOTHING for his project yet somehow got an A and a scholarship. I really hate my old college.

^ At least you have a lot of cool stuff now that YOU made.

TTD 120mph's avatar

Indeed, great work! You deserved an A!!

And I know all too well about slackers that somehow get better scores on things than you do. Most of the kids in my engineering class were slackers and only survived off of extra credit.....and because our teacher was soft on them (grade wise, not "yelling at them for doing very stupid things" wise).
Some of the worst kids had slightly higher grades than me JUST because they went to a concert and got extra credit for bringing in the ticket stub. Now I saw that as unfair because not everyone wants to go see a stupid concert and waste money on something they find boring just so they can get EC! It isn't an honest earned grade, it's a lazy way of getting a higher grade. >:-(

Yeah I just try to look at it that I have a lot of good work for getting into grad school, and I have a lot more experience. He may have an A in college but slacking doesn't always land you a good job.

If you ever run across that again, ask the professor if a trip to Cedar Point can substitute a trip to a concert. :P If it's engineering, at least Cedar Point would have more to do with the class than a concert.

I agree it isn't fair though. In some cases I understand extra credit, like when there's extra curricular projects or reports to do, but going to a concert? What kind of concert was it anyway?

usign that as a method of extra credit completely ruins the idea of teaching and they are learning absolutely nothing and earning better grades...grr..stupic people.

Actually Jessai, we did go on a field trip to CP. It was a drowsy day and Dragster was closed to high winds:( (though I did get 20 rides on MF:)). The sad thing was that my teacher said there was going to be a worksheet about CP and coasters on the way to CP, and I was all over it. But I sadly found out, on the day we went, that she was only joking.

She always liked to joke around with me about my CP obsession. :)

And one of the concerts was our annual Lip Sync concert. Another EC opportunity was plays.....boring plays.
