Mom worried about riding MF

Hey all, i'm going to CP tomorrow and my mom is worried about me riding it because she said that she heard that you can get a concussion on it because it shakes your head around so much. Even though i'm going to ride it without a doubt my question is, is what she heard true and how much does this ride shake your head. Thanks for your time.

You know something, your mom probably watched the bs on cnbc. It's a hock of crap. You won't get a concussion from riding any ride in the park (unless ofcourse you are upside down in the seat).
The media must be running out of stuff to talk about if they're attacking roller coasters.
Be forewarned that when she sees the scale of this coaster you will probably ed up in a tiff.

MF is the smoothest ride I've ever been on. If indeend you do get a concussion (which of course you don't) I should be about brain dead after 11 rides, Jeff would be on life suport probably after 34 laps. MF is basicly one of, if not the safest coaster in the park. It's smooth, the restraints are comfortable and nice fitting (cept when the ride op staples it to your lap...*coughs Discovery Channel shoot*) and there is even no way for the brakes to go out since they are magnetic. You have nothing to worry about.

Looking back at the articles. First, there were ten incidents reported. That's right, ten. Which brings me to my second point. Every single one of those ten incidents occurred over a TWENTY year period. Yep that's right, twenty years.
Oh, but wait! It gets better.
Every single one of those cases where found inconclusive. No certified Doctor could prove that any of those whooping ten were caused by a roller coaster. The only reason that it is on your TV is that eight different doctors put that the patient started noticing such aliments after riding a roller coaster (none of which where at Cedar Point).
Thousands of people visit Americas amusement parks every year. Compare that to ten in twenty years.
Again, the facts that the media "forgot" to mention proved that there is no problem.

Wait, maybe she read the Wall Street Journal this winter. It was basically like this (this is not an exact quote)

If you're over 40, like roller coasters, aren't afraid to ride, and won't hold Cedar Point responsible for some stomach ache you have after riding a roller coaster, you should ride Millennium Force! 80, though, that is pretty old.

Perhaps a good comparison is airplanes. Every day, thousands of airplanes take off around the world. How often do you hear about plane crashes? Maybe more often than you hear about coaster accidents, but still, the ratios are very similiar: Every day, a lot of planes take off and hardly(if any) crash. Every day, in the coaster season, coasters complete the circuit lots of times and hardly anything ever happens.
So, all those people who will fly 37,000 feet in the air at 600 mph and won't go up 310 feet and 92 mph, I must say I don't understand you. :)

Sorry to say, but your mom is a little paranoid. Whenever I ride a coaster, I feel safe because I love riding them, and there is nothing in the whole entire world I would rather do. You have a better chance of getting hit by a car as a pedestrian, getting struck by lightning, winning the lottery, and a lot more likely to get into an accident in a car. I could go on and on, but you get the point.
The media blows this situation WAY out of proportion. Sure I'm sympathetic for the people that died from coasters and rides. Especially when some kids are killed by ride malfunctions like the one mad mouse type coaster that came back down the lift hill. This wasn't the riders' fault, and it is sad.
What I'm not sympathetic about is about the idiots that think it is funny to TRY to wiggle out of their harnesses, and going into restricted areas of the coasters and getting struck by the train or riders on the trains, as in the incident with an inverted a while back. But we are talking about 6 people. 6 people! I mean come on! Out of 350 million people that ride coasters and rides around the U.S. every year only 6 have died. This number is great.
I don't want to jinx this situation, but no accidents have happened this year resulting in death. But if, and I stress IF, someone does get killed, the media will be all over it again.

A young teenage girl boarded Wildcat, knowing that she had a heart condition, she didn't die on the ride, but she died later. I don't know the specific details, but you get the idea. I don't know how long it has been since someone actually died on a CP ride or coaster, but back in the early 70's the only coasters that were in existence were Wilcat, CCMR, and Blue Streak.
I don't know about other parks, but I know that Cedar Point is about as safe as it gets. So don't worry about the coasters at the point.

People who criticize roller coasters are the same people who are too afraid to ride. They just need an excuse as to why they can't.
