They may have strict rules, that doesn't mean some of the rules aren't written by a monkey with a pen.
Making them stand behind pillars protects the op while sacrificing their ability to monitor the train for any problems. While I understand protecting the op, there has got to be a better way than by making them stand behind a pillar.

Attraction 2007 is see through pillars for all the ride ops to stand behind and watch. You heard it here first. ;)

I think the "problems" with the WT, TTD, and MF, are not that they are Intamins, but rather that they were all using relatively new, if not brand new technology. Can you really expect brand new technology to be perfect the first time?

Ok about my comment above, It wasnt to get anyone pissed off about I was just trying to make a joke. And right after that I made another comment that said HeHe... but it isnt their. And I spelled vekoma wrong. I knew how to spell it because I was just on the website before that but I just spelled it vecoma because I typed it fast. Sorry if I ruined anyones day.

Getting back to what this thread is about, which is footers, let me throw something out as to why construction is starting so early.

People speculated that it'll be a 500 ft tall coaster, but I think that's totally off base. It takes time to put footers in. Could construction start this early because this ride will be another record breaker, in length this time? Some construction worker rumors surfaced about work being done elsewhere in the park. Even MF construction didn't start until August, what if this new ride is double the length of MF?

Length or heavy theming are to only reasons I can think of for construction to start this early.

I think the early construction is, in part, a marketing technique that Cedar Point is using. If they start construction now, while everybody is at the park, then everybody will see that there will be something new and exciting for next year. It is an incentive to come back. Pretty smart if you ask me.

I don't believe it is a marketing move. Finish the ride early and have it sit unused for months in 2006 without getting a Return On Investment for that time period? Doubtful.

Also, having construction equipment and workers on a site is expensive. They wouldn't purposely draw out the construction time period either.

I don't think a construction schedule will be a marketing tool. That's what web sites, simulated videos, press releases and advertising is for.

i'm hoping they started early because they need the off-season so build something else. :)

after looking at the footings again, i'm going to say that this thing HAS to leave the compounds of the WWL site. if it doesn't, its going to have to be all tangled up in itself like medusa or something like that. but, i don't think intamin makes compact twisters like B&M does.

Intamin makes whatever you pay them to make. Look a little harder at their previous projects. They've got twisty junk all over the world. Heck, look at the second half of Superman at SFNE.

What if they started early construction to make sure the ride has a high reliability. With the past problems they've had with rides they might be apprehensive on a new coaster, especially if it is a new type, just as TTD was. This way, if the ride was finished early, they'd have a lot of time to get it running and work out all the kinks so they wouldn't have another problem...such as Skyhawk breaking on opening day and being down for almost a week. It would make sense.

Almost a week? Skyhawk went down at 9:30pm Saturday and was back up and running midday Tuesday.
