Next Summer

I am going to Ohio next year and will be visiting Cedar Point. I just wanted to know what rides I should go on and what I shouldn't waste my time on. My home park is Six Flags Great America, and my favorite steel coasters are Raging Bull, Batman the Ride, and Superman Ultimate Flight. As for wooden my favorites are American Eagle, and Hades. I might be going to Kings Island too, so would a season pass be worth it? Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

After moving to the Chicago area a few years ago and experiencing SFGA, I can assure you that Cedar Point will blow you away. With its wide assortment of world-class coasters, you won't be disappointed. You should without a doubt ride Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force, Raptor (similar to Batman the Ride, but with more inversions,) Mantis (similar to Iron Wolf, but much larger,) Magnum XL-200, Wicked Twister (think Vertical Velocity, but bigger,) and Maverick. The only ride I would advise you not experience would be Disaster Transport, as it's falling into disrepair, and Jr. Gemini and Woodstock Express, as they're kids coasters. All of the other coasters at the park are also great. As for woodies at CP, the only big contender is Mean Streak, which is extremely rough. Also be sure to ride Power Tower, SkyHawk, and maXair. If you consider Raging Bull to be a "big" coaster, you are going to be amazed by Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force, 420 and 310 feet tall, respectively. Although I've only been to King's Island once, I can assure you that it too has a wide assortment of reputable coasters and thrill rides. A Maxx pass would probably be a good idea.

Hope this helps!

^ Platinum not Maxx Pass. They have been gone for 3 years.

Ah, yes. Thank you.

If this is your first trip to Cedar Point, there is no ride (outside of kiddie and carnival rides) that isn't worth riding at least once. I wouldn't wait more than 15-30 minutes for Disaster Transport, but it is worth at least one ride.

Thank you guys for the help. Another question, for those of you who have also ridden Hades, is Mean streak rougher than Hades? Hades is by far the roughest ride I've been on, so I might try Mean streak because I got abuesed pretty bad on Hades.

If you do go to Kings Island, which is my home park, I highly recommend riding the Beast at night, because pitch-black woods are better than in the day. Firehawk is a great experience since it is a flying coaster, but not that great of an overall ride. Flight of Fear is very good, Vortex is decent, but can be violent at times, and Son of Beast, if it is open, is extremely painful. Flight Deck is a classic suspended coaster, and Invertigo is the basic boomerang coaster. Adventure Express is a great ride for a relaxing time, the Racer is a legend, very similar to Blue Streak, and the Backlot Stunt Coaster is a fun, well-themed ride. Of course, Diamondback is a must. Delirium is a smaller MaXair, Drop Tower is a classic freefall, The Crypt is a giant top spin. Kings Island is a fantastic park for visit, and it gives a fun experience for the whole family. I recommend it for anybody.

Hi,

SFGAM is also my home park and I only go there once every couple years. I still go to Hurricane Harbor every year which is pretty good but there is no comparison between CP and SFGAM. I have been going with family and friends to CP every year since I was 12 back in 1989. Every time I bring someone for their 1st time they are just amazed how great the park and rides are.

To answer one of your questions, I have been on Hades and it is a great ride. Hades is very smooth compared to Mean Streak. You can barely breathe on Mean Streak.

Where do you live?

I am from southeast Wisconsin, and go to Great America less than I would like to, I usualy go about 5 or 6 times a year.

Not saying that I didn't enjoy Hades, infact it is probably one of my favorite rides, but it was realy abusive and the first and most recent time I went on it was October of this year. Not sure last time you were on it but I have heard in the past 2 years it has gotten more rough than when it had 1st opened. So if mean streak is worse than Hades is now I will definatly pass on it.

Oh yea I had another question, I am assuming it will be pretty crowded when I am there, so what rides generaly have big lines snd what rides are usualy less of a wait?

Your longest lines will be Maverick and Top Thrill Dragster most likely. Millennium Force, Raptor, Mantis, and Magnum all have moderate waits, but normally not too terrible.

And what/where is Hades? I've never heard of it.

fast...Faster...FASTEST!

Hades is a wooden coaster at Mount Olympus in Wisconsin Dells.

And a great one may I add.

I won't be going to Cedar Point next summer.. the house payments are killing us, my bf's hours were cut at work, so that means no season/platinum passes. We could use the break anyway.. enjoy next year everyone :)

Definitely go on Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, Magnum and Raptor. I would wait forever for those coasters. They're worth the wait trust me.

So stoked for 2010 :]

One last question as Summer comes closer and closer, what hotels are worth staying at. By that I mean not to expensive but not a dump. All help is apreciated, thanks.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but i will be going to Cedar Point most likley the second weekend of July if plans do not change. I'll be there for 2 1/2 days, so hopefully I'll be able to get everything in. Thank you all for your help.

i also am from eastern WI and consider CP to be my home park (SFGA?, what's that?). Once you try CP, you will feel the same way. Do NOT miss: maverick, raptor, dragster, millenium force, magnum. Avoid: mean streak (violent, think severe internal injuries).
