Opening Day 2016

I think the overthinking and over analyzing of this is kind of getting out of hand.

Usually, the park opens on a Saturday in May and then remains open daily through Labor Day.

This year, the park opens on a Saturday in May, but will then be closed the following week from Monday-Thursday, before beginning daily operation the following Friday. This actually puts the park in line with most seasonal parks, which don't go from opening directly to daily operation, but instead start with weekend only.

As is the case with any seasonal park, prepare for some hiccups the first couple of days as both the staff and rides get acclimated to guests after a 6 month hibernation. If you aren't willing to be patient and kind with staff regarding these hiccups, wait a few weeks before going to the park. Not saying what happened last year was acceptable or the norm, but for goodness sake cut the park a break and put yourself in the shoes of an employee starting their first day of work at a new place (or often times their first job ever!) or a piece of complex machinery still warming up after a long, cold winter. Opening Day is not going to be perfect, and for those of us fortunate to be passholders and/or enjoy numerous visits to a place we enjoy, within reason, some slack should be cut and you should just be happy to be done with snow and back in a place we all (supposedly) enjoy.

I didn't have an issue with opening day. It is kind of a variable day as far as rides working reliably, but I've gone to most opening days since the late 60's and its always been like that.

What really irked me last year was the filth in the Soak City pools on its opening day. Soak City opens Memorial Day weekend so a bad winter shouldn't be an excuse. I heard they had a new manager at the water park so that was probably the reason. I hope they learned from last year and will not allow a repeat of that.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
