Shoot the Rapids is being removed!

Yes, Jungle Larry's African Safari was originally called Jungle Larry's Safari Island and you would cross over to it via floating bridges, similar to how Dinosaurs Alive is set up.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I believe the park made an agreement with the EPA to not make any more major permanent alterations to the lagoons, so we should have nothing to worry about.

Pete and CPFan1976: yes. my first visit was in 1973. I remember visiting Jungle Larry's Safari Island.

I don't think Cedar Fair would ever just fill the lagoons in and pave them over. But they have been changed many times over the years, and it's entirely possible they will be altered again in the future.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

I'd like to think they'll keep some of the concrete there just in case they have future plans in that area.

I'm sure they have plans for the area.

Wetlands designations from the state or the EPA only offer protection in a very loose sense. You can do whatever you want to something that has wetlands protection so long as you create a commensurate amount of wetland someplace else, so if they wanted to fill them in they could go right ahead and do so. The logic of it would of course be up for debate, not only aesthetically but I would imagine they serve a function with regards to drainage.

It would actually make more sense to so some land reclamation from the lake then it would to destroy the lagoons.

The "clearing" that you see is in actuality all of the concrete that the ride trough and the reservoir pool was comprised of. It has all been drained so thus the bottom is visible - no deconstruction on the island has started other than the removal of the lifts and drops; with the drop of the first hill still as yet remaining.

I just thought of something dumb. I think Cedar Point should keep the rocks and put in a big fountain in the front so that way it doesn't look so empty as they're re-doing the area.

I assume there will be a fence separating the Frontier Trail from the STR entrance and observation area. I'm curious to see if a fence will be constructed along the CP&LE rail road.

Well both lift hills are gone. The only thing visible that I could see on the webcam was the station and tunnel that followed after. So there you have it everyone. Everyone got their wish!

On Tony's periscope the other day, he mentioned that it was "gone"... I'm assuming that meant all of it.

No, you can see via the webcam that some of it remains. The lifts (and presumably the pumps) are gone, but the station, tunnel, and most of the concrete pools on both sides remain as of today.

There is a crane in the area right now on the webcams. I wonder if the station will be reused for a future attraction.

I sure hope so. The station and scenery are beautiful.

Maybe they could keep it around to use as a Halloweekends attraction

Halloween attraction?

Escape from Rollback Rapids!

Somebody made a cool concept on what could go in STR's place - it's very cool but I think it's not very Cedar Point like. I feel like Cedar Point would build the tallest wooden roller coaster and the fastest and longest.

If i was a betting man i would imagine that this is where rip cord would be going. I am hoping for something better there.
