Sign on DT...?

When looking at a picture of this 1990 park guide I found here, I noticed that below the 12-E there's a sign that reads Disaster Transport. I remember seeing an actual image of the ride taken in I'm guessing 1990 that actually shows that sign being there. Whatever happened to it? Was it destroyed in a storm or something or did CP think that the ride stuck out on it's own and didn't need a sign? Personally I think that it should have stayed as it actually looks pretty cool.

Jeff probably knows the real story but I would think that wind really blows throught that area off the lake and that sign is like a big sail and probably was damaged and never repaired.

That picture is an concept drawing. I dont' remember the sign ever being there.

If you notice in the "photo" none of games row, the bulding for the spiral bathrooms, even the stairs leading up to spiral are there.

Yes but I've seen a picture of the ride that was taken around 1990 that showed that the sign actually existed. And while it may not have ever served crowds THAT large before, I distinctly remember waiting in line for it in 1990 and having to go through every room (including the one that's now just a bunch of sheet metal walls, back when it was a regular sized room with wall-to-wall queue lines) with every queue full.

The sign on the ride has moved a couple of times to accommodate the fact that they keep moving the entrance.

The only sign I remember is the one that says, "Disaster Transport," gives a brief description of the ride and warns that the approximate wait from the entrance is 45 minutes. That is the sign that has moved a couple of times.

My partner pointed this out to me last year, oddly enough. We finally concluded that the sign was either torn down by winds or had been moved to accomodate for changes in the general area.

There was a large canvas/vinyl type of sign that was on the ride in the same position as the sign shown in the concept artwork. On it was the DISpatch mASTER TRANSPORT logo with the explosion.

I'd say it's a pretty good educated guess that the sign either became shredded by the wind (as I've heard the first laser show screen did) or became too faded to keep in place.

Like the rest of the decor at Disaster it most likely was viewed as not worth the cost of replacement.

I knows the difference between to and too ;)

Richie A.

You mean something like this

http://www.themeparkbrochures.com/1990/cp1990_5.html

CP 98'-03'Park Operations
GL 04-07' Park Operations
CP 06',07' Fear Faire
CP 08' Ice Show tech/rides, Fright Zone
CP 09' Admissions/Fright Zone

Yep that's basically it. They have a similar one now inside the ride next to the staircase that leads up to the loading platform.

As I said before I honestly think a sign somewhere on the ride would do it some good. Even if it's listed on the map as a ride, from the exterior it doesn't really look like one.

It's good for their to be some secret rides at CP. ;)

Covering up the giant "12-E" with a Disaster Transport logo sounds dandy to me!

But how will Dick know what size shoes to get at Payless?

Or what exit to get off at at Cedar Point State Park?

That's a cool little website that that is on. I have to peruse it some more. ;)

On the subject of Disaster Transport, I was thinking. I noticed last year on DT that they didn't play that recording last year in the tide that said "I'm losing control!" I thought it was really cool and did add something to the ride. I mean most people really don't give it credit but now that I think of it, it really is an awesome ride. So does anyone know why they took the recording out? And I also read on the CP website that DT features 2 lifelike robots. I've never seen them so does anyone when/where they are on the ride?

If I remember correctly they have been long since removed.

I believe it has been several years since that recording was last used. I like DT, it is a good small coaster for the younger kids to get started on. I kinda wish they would bring back the theming somewhat, but I know it probably isn't going to happen. I really wish they would bring back the robot that stood and talked to you in the first queue area. That is the one thing i really remember about the theming of DT.

Why would they continue to play a "themed" recording during the ride when they've scrapped nearly all of the ride's "theming?" It wouldn't make sense.
The "lifelike" robot used to be in one of the queue-line rooms that is now closed and used for storage. "Flight 222, my sensors indicate that you're located just outside of Alaska..."

I think part of the reason the themeing was scrapped was the fact that there is no lines anymore. Why keep paying to keep the themeing up if no one's going to be around long enough to see it. However walking through that tunnel at the end of the night is a little freaky seeing no one though. I may go to coastermania just to go on the lit up expeirence. ;)

That doesn't make any sense, it's just laziness in my opinion.
