Skyhawk Radio Spot

I don't know if this was mentioned in another Skyhawk thread, but I heard the radio commercial for Skyhawk for the first time this morning here on U93 here in South Bend. I'll be honest... I thought it was pretty cheesy...

You hear the sound of the ride, which is pretty cool... But then you hear a couple discussing the sound. I don't remember all the details, but its something along the lines of "Do you hear that?", "Yeah, whats that whooshing noise?", "It's coming towards us", "It's so big", "Theres people on it!"....

Then a voice that is trying to sound WAY too scary chimes in about "Imagine falling 125 feet at 60 mph over and over again... Skyhawk at Cedar Point..." And then there is a shrieking sound which is strangely similar to the noise at the end of the Millennium Force promo...

Like I said, I can't remember every detail, as I was in traffic on the way to work, but I was wondering if anyone else had heard the ad, and what they thought of it?

No, haven't seen it. But, I have begun calling Pepsi "Take to the Sky and Save Soda".

That makes sense, since its a radio ad ;)

That does sound pretty cheesy Josh. It should say "Over and Over again, but thats it, just 2 overs".

Perhaps this is better:

My ears haven't seen it. ;)

I ironically heard it last week as well as I was litteraly pulling into the Kennywood parking lot. In fact I thought I was listening to the promo for their new swing until it mentioned going up 125', and I thought to myself, thats not right...

And it ended up being the CP ad.

Yep chees-o-mundo for sure, but hearing the ride before they say anything is cool...

I saw the TV spot a few weeks ago. It was alright, better than some of the ads they've had in the past. Most of it was just text describing what the ride does swinging back and forth on the screen in the path of the ride's motion.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Yeah I saw the T.v. one but not the radio one. =]

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

Top 5--- 1. Maverick- 2. Millennium 3. Magnum 4. TTD 5. Gemini

Cavs- 2007 Eastern Conference Champions!.-

What radius does CP Market to? I cant imagine they go too much farther west from here as far as radio and tv spots. Im only 90 miles from Chicago, and Im pretty sure they don't have TV spots there for CP....

I've heard it in Grand Rapids.

It's not terrible, but considering CP made a big deal out of how they dumped their ad agency and everything, the campaigns this year seem to really be more of the same to me. Maybe I was just expecting more of a change in direction from the commercials of the past few years.

TV commercials seem to be rather sparse, although maybe it's just because I'm a dork and watch CNBC and G4 at night a lot (unless ESPN has something decent).

YEAHHH South Bend. My hometown as well. Yes, I also heard it on u93 and thought it was a little silly.

Do you watch G4 at 8pm, Matt? ;)

But the ones for Geauga Lake are a major step forward from "Fun" being back at the park. That spot was awful.

I still think it sucks the ad firm i work at didn't get the CP account. I thought our ideas were better than "Ride on"

I'm surprised no one mentioned the use of one of the other parks' B&M inverted coaster in the CP spots either.

Haha - I do watch "Mad Money" most nights along with "On the Money," and usually "Kudlow & Co" at 5. I'm not a big believer in making lots of trades (I'm more of a Boglehead), but Cramer is mildly entertaining.

And you bet I watch G4 at 8PM. Those TNG episodes don't ever get old - even after literally 10 times! :)

I agree that I think GL's commercial is a step forward. Is that supposed to be Cedar Point in the bigger box though? ;)

Actually, it was one of the first things mentioned in the discussion. I'd dig it up, but I am what doctors call "lazy".

I believe the thread was about the ad on the CP website, and the comments about the rogue invert were made on the very first page. Can't get anything by us. ;)

EDIT: I just checked the thread I mentioned, and found that the coaster was not mentioned there. However, it was definitely mentioned in the thread regarding the TV ad. That I am sure of.

OT: Matt, I believe that was one of the best shows ever made. So many good episodes! The one where they are stuck in a temporal loop and the ship keeps blowing up, the one where Picard lives another live and gets his flute, the Q episodes, etc. A rare case where a sequal series is better than the original.

My 9 year old pointed out to me that the commercial had a "substitute Jr Gemini" and also the other coaster that is not at Cedar Point (but I don't remember which one it was).
