Somebody's camera fell from TTD

Our upcoming visit to CP tomorrow has reminded of what occurred during our last visit on June 5-7. We came through the entrance by Magnum around 9:45 am on Sunday the 7th and TTD was running for either Coaster Mania or ERT. Anyway as we were rounding the corner near Witches' Wheel we gave a casual glance to the train that crested TTD and went over. Seconds later there was a tremendous crash about 20-30 yards in front of us. A camcorder(or camera), had come crashing to the pavement. Some kids ran over to collect the pieces. It was quite a sight to see, and I can only imagine the trauma had that actually hit someone. I've never ridden TTD, so I don't know if CP can catch those in the act of using cameras on that ride.

Stupid people.

They're very good at catching people with cameras before they launch them. Sometimes it's the people that don't have the intention of recording their ride and just have an open/loose pocket that tend to lose their cameras or cells.

Just this year, during one of my Dragster marathons, I witnessed a camera fly off a train. The funny part was that I was riding and noticed it. Just as we crested the tophat, I looked towards the parking lot, and saw a pink cell pop out from the back of the train. And I watched it fall (almost in sync with us) for about 2 seconds before it became impossible to see it. As we got out of the train, I shouted, "Who has a pink cell phone?!". Some kid answered feeling around his pockets and I responded; "Yea, not anymore.":)

I still don't get why these people feel the need to record themselves while on the ride. So stupid...

That's pretty retarded. I've gotten my camera out on roller coasters at other theme parks... I never tried it at CP because I'd heard so much about how strict they are, but you'd be absolutely crazy to try and have one out on Dragster. Of course if it fell out of a pocket, that's just bad planning. I was pretty paranoid about mine, but I always make sure to wear pants with button-down pockets so it definitely won't go flying out. I can only imagine that hitting someone...

Millennium Force at sunset is a beautiful sight.

Working the entrance to Terror island at the boat house, I had numerous items fall from Dragster and come near me, and some even hit me. On every ride someone will pull their camera out or throw something out. It does sting when it hurts but you have to expect it to happen. That's why one thing I'd lik to see for Halloweekends is canopies over the benches by the boathouse at Terror Island for the parents or grandparents who sit there waiting for there children to come out to be safe. I understand a canopy may not be scary but having numerous lighters, glasses, cameras, and sunglasses fall from the ride, and when Halloweekends dras more people over in that area, it may be a good idea to help protect the guests that wait there or stay there to watch others get scared.

One day the wrong item is going to hit the wrong person, and the park is going to have a lawsuit on their hands.

I'm pretty sure that all the legalese both at rides and on the backs of the tickets has the park pretty well covered.

It'd be a PR nightmare, but not likely that a lawsuit would go anywhere.

On top of that, whoever took the camera, phone, loose article onto the ride is violating not just park rules, but by extension Ohio State Law. So they could be held accountable for the results of losing their object more-so than the park could.

I didn't say it would be successful, but now a days people will sue for anything, and the might not win, but it may just make the news.

I almost learned that lesson the hard way. :)
I was riding Magnum and my phone came out of my cargo pocket, but landed in the back of the seat, so I pressed my back against it as hard as I could to save it.
Same day, my wallet did a similar trick on Maverick.

And that was the last day I ever trusted old Velcro pockets to hold my stuff. I already bought 2 pairs of zipper cargo shorts to wear at parks for now on...

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

^I have a lot of shorts like that, and I never trusted them either, but what I did is I had the opening to the pocket sealed shut with heavy duty Velcro, on the inside of the pocket, so you could never tell. To get in, you just opened the pocket, then pulled apart the Velcro, but my stuff can't fall out now! It works really well!

I was almost hit by a flying Canadian Toonie while we were standing by Dragster, on the Paddlewheel side. It hit the ground hard, and I got nervous about how close it came. We got away from there, naturally, but only after I picked it up to keep. I've also seen an entire box of saltwater taffy empty out onto the midway from the Corkscrew as it looped over pedestrians. Not as dangerous, but it was kind of like when they throw candy from the float in a parade, or a pinata. The kids went running to gather it up!

On my last visit to KI, maybe 2 weeks ago we saw they had added a big acrylic box near the entrance to Diamondback, right below the warning sign about loose articles. It's probably 4-5 feet high, and several feet square. At the time it was about 3/4's of the way full of cell phones, cameras, and glasses that we assume were recovered from the ground around the ride! (I wonder how many they have now!) Most were broken, more like smashed to smithereens! I'd never seen anything like this and thought it was an ingenious, if not entertaining idea. It sure hit the message home, though!

I was at the park on the fourth day of the season and right by where the bus is during Halloweekends next to the Magnum exit I saw a pricey looking pair of shades come cascading to their demise. The woman on the bench next to where they landed just chucked them in the trash since they were busted any way. I'm thankfull my girfriend is a slow walker, because if I wasn't waiting up for her, they probably would of nailed me, what a close call.

If I have my phone or camera on me while riding MF, I stick it in my pants. The lap bar is pushed tightly over it, and there is no way that it will fall out.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

This happens more frequently on maXair. My firend who works at the park had a cell phone come about 5 feet from hitting them. Thats what the little bins are for... If there are no bins, get a locker.

I generally rock cargo shorts. sunglasses and bigger things go in the bottom pockets and my phone stays in the top pockets. WHen i fasten the lapbar i make sure it closes off the pocket so nothing can come out.

First rollback=opening weekend '09

I have only seen a hat fall from Dragster. When I go into the park I put my keyless entry remote, pass and money in my sock. I do not bring anything else other than my eyeglass strap into the park.

I brought a camara on Demon Drop once...XD

Yeah. I make sure that my cell phone is securely in my pocket before I ride. But one of these days, karma will get me...

Now I'm nervous to walk around TTD. Haha

"You are NOT going back to your friends in line. I will be monitoring you VERY closely!"
-remember, line jumping is NOT a sport!!-

Thank God for fanny packs. I never go to the park without it!

I have had so many loose artcle stories, it's not even funny!

On magnum- got stopped twice due to someone else's camera on the hill

On TTD-We launched up over the top hat and someone's pocket change flew up over our heads and showered down on us and I alomst grabbed 50 cents!

My sister still had a bead necklace she found when beads fell from TTD's hill and hit the midway by the guessing game....

On maxair, some dude brought sunflower seeds in line with him and wanted to ride as he held them. Then the op came and took them to the bins. Yes, sunflower seeds! (that would have made a mess!)

On WT, the train, not ours, launched up the first spike, then came down to be stopped in the brakes. A man had a huge video recorder and he was in the very back seat. The op came and took it away from him. The cops were at the exit of the ride, and the dude was busted.

Seriously, what do you expect to film on a ride like WT? The back of the seat in front of you? then the sky, then the ground, and your feet kicking in the air?? !
