Speed Slides Coming Down

I was surprised to see that the Soak City speed slides are being dismantled to make way for the mat racer. Screamscape has a link to a couple of nice photos, which also show the new paint job of the body/tube slides.

I always assumed this would be the case, for the simple reason of not having enough room for the multi-lane racers.

ADDED:
The painted slides look pretty good, and should really improve the aesthetics of the water park.

I like the colors as well...more of a modern look now. I wonder if they would move the speed slides down as they could probably fit within a tight layout. Then again, it may not be worth the effort.

It's a shame they are removing the Speed Slides. Those were my favorites. Bigger riders [myself included] would absolutely launch of the slide at the last drop off. I remember a trip with my family there when I was younger and my dad sitting there just laughing as we rode it.

"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"

Are they painting the slides in place? Or, did they temporarily remove them from the other towers while they were being painted?

Seems like it would be an awful lot of unnecessary work to remove the slides to pain them.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe King's Island had their speed slides removed for a matt racer, too. This was a long time ago, though, because I was around the age of 7 when they had the speed slides.

You can see an extra level above the matt racers. This is where the speed slides were.

Let's Get Weird.

Just a thought, is it possible they could just be taking the Speed Slides down to move them to a new section of Soak City? In my opinion, they could add on a little bit into the parking lot of Soak City to bring back the speed slides.

May I ask why they are painting the older slides NOW after 20 years??

I'm hoping this is the first step at modernizing the park.

Now we just need a funnel.

You're partially correct. Kings Island did have some "speed slides" on that structure, but they had 4 different slides. There was only one slide coming from the top level, and the other three were on the lower level. See the concept art for Water Works below.

As for the speed slides at CP, I hate to see these things go. As was previously said, the airtime on that last drop was, in a word, insane.

I want a funnel like the ones at KALAHARI. a twister body slide or Behemoth bowl one would be a neat addition, as most parks have one already.

I personally like the new colors for the slides! They look really bright and inviting, not to mention fun! Before, they resembled the exterior of Disaster Transport's tunnels. Ick.

They look much much better than they used to, that's for sure!

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I call dibs on the Lime Green one!...Cedar Point finally gives life to Soak City, after how many years?

Amazing what a coat of paint can do. Same old slides but they look exciting now.

I was thinking the same thing.

Is it true!? Can it be that they might actually be listening to us?! ;)

I'm lovin these new colors. Soak City really needed a fresh new look. I hope this improvement isn't just limited to these slides. :D
